Magurele is a town in Ilfov County, Muntenia, Romania, made up
of the localities Alunişu, Dumitrana, Magurele (residence), Pruni
and Vârteju. The locality is in the south-western neighborhood of
Bucharest, being a satellite city of Bucharest. According to the
2011 census, Magurele has a population of 11,041 inhabitants,
being the eighth and smallest urban center of Ilfov County from a
demographic point of view. The settlement was removed from the
commune to the town in 2005, by Law no. 414 of December 29,
2005. Magurele is the place where two well-known Romanian
research institutes in the field of physics are located: the Institute
of Atomic Physics and the National Institute for Research and
Development for Earth Physics.
The first documentary attestation of the locality dates from 1852,
but archaeologists have revealed vestiges of the Paleolithic and
Neolithic
