• Spring 2013 in response to PA12-40 the BOR created a
committee of Community college Math faculty to
redesign the Intermediate Algebra(MAT137) and
Elementary Algebra(MAT095) curriculum to align with
the Common Core.
11. Spring 2104
• Michael’s research lead to open source material including
Scottsdale Community College’s (SCC) workbook and
MyOpenMath (MOM).
• Marina’s Spring break trip to Scottsdale, AZ to see her
son, and visit SCC Math Department Chair, Donna
Gaudet.
12. Mana from heaven..SCC
• SCC created creative common licensed workbooks for
Elementary Algebra and Intermediate Algebra. The
workbooks aligned to the common core and paired with
a free online Math platform called MyOpenMath
(MOM).

• Edited Intermediate Algebra book ver 1.0
• Offered 3 sections of MAT137T, one regular section
MAT137.
• Offered 2 sections of MAT095I
• Total students: 150 used OER materials.
15. Summer 2015/Fall 2015
• Summer: 3 sections of MAT137, 1 section of MAT 137T
(4 sections)
• Ran workshops for adjuncts from HCC and sister
community colleges .
• Fall 2015: 4 MAT137T sections, 7 MAT 137 sections and
12 MAT095I sections. All together: 23 sections !
• Intermediate Algebra Book to version 1.1
16. Cost Savings to the State
• Approximately 70% of students are using financial aid.
• During Fall 2015 semester, OER saves the state ($230 per
student, 403 student, 70% of 575):
MAT 095/MAT 137: $92,690 in one semester!
From Fall 2014 to Fall 2015, OER saved the state ($230 per
student, 620 students, 70% of 885):

18. Future Goals
• Continue to track cost savings to students and student
success in OER vs. Non-OER sections.
• Continue to update existing Intermediate Algebra OER
course.
