2. Coal Seam Gas (CSG) is a major issue in today’s
society as it has both positive and negative
consequences. In my personal opinion after
researching information which is both for and
against CSG productions in Australia I have come
to the conclusion that it is detrimental to the
environment and also causes problems
throughout communities.
3. BEFORE AFTER
From a personal perspective after completing
research into this topic I believe that CSG mining
will also have a negative impact on food
production as the mining will destroy faming land
and the water that is contaminated will affect
other crops in the area (liverpoolplains, 2010).
4. According to SDCCC (2010) before CSG
development is fully into development the state
government needs to understand and address the
concern that the CSG industry will have serious
environmental and health impacts. The water that
is produced from CSG extraction is contaminated
with metals and toxic hydrocarbons from the coal
seams, and will have negative effects on farming
and nearby communities where health risks are a
major concern.
5. Hepburn (2012) suggests that further research
needs to be conducted by the appropriate
authorities in order to be fully aware of all
research concerning CSG mining before approval
is granted. This will help determine how the
mining will affect the land and possible stop any
irreversible damage occurring.
