Evaluation 4
1. HOW DID YOU USE NEW MEDIA
TECHNOLOGIES IN THE CONSTRUCTION
AND RESEARCH, PLANNING AND
EVALUATION STAGES?
By Travis Quailey
2. WHAT IS THE DEFINITION OF NEW MEDIA?
•
New Media is a term that is used to define what is related to the internet and
interplay between technologies. It is known to be the products and services
that are digital and having the characteristics of being networkable,
interactive and compressible, they also have the ability to provide
information and entertainment by using other technologies such as
computers or the internet. Although new media doesn’t include television
programs, films, books and newspapers. This term is in fact known to be
constantly changing as new media evolves.
4. BLOGGER
•
Blogger is what I used throughout all of my media coursework, I used this as
an opportunity to make my work visual and interactive by putting it online
and accessible to read by anyone on the internet. I used a variety of other
technologies to display my work by embedding them onto my blog which was
effective towards making my work look constructive and also creative. This
is something that was important because I didn’t want to display my work in
text throughout my whole blog as it would make it look boring and not as
inspiring. By using this technique to display my work it made it easy for my
mentors to give me feedback on my work and help me improve what I can.
5. SLIDESHARE
•
Slideshare is one of the media technologies that I chose to display my work as
if it was a power point, I have used this for multiple tasks on my blogger as it
does make it seem more interactive to my audience. Throughout the
PowerPoint’s I have kept a theme throughout which is black and gold as my
blogger has the artist of the song and is wearing a black outfit with gold
jewellery, I have used his song in my music video to portray my artist Lyrics
& Passion ( Lian Pembroke ). How it would work is that you would have to
create a Microsoft PowerPoint containing the text, links and images that you
want to display. The only disadvantage towards this media is that if you have
chosen any animations you wouldn’t able to see them when you upload it to
Slideshare.
6. GOOGLE
•
This search engine was mainly used for everything to do with my research as
it provided me with information of the genre I chose and other things to
benefit me in my work such as images, videos, map locations and also
reviews based on certain hip-hop and rap videos that would relate to my
artist. It also gave my audience a clear visual of where I filmed my music
video, what equipment I used throughout the production of my video and
also the images of the conventions and stereotypes in my music video. This
has gotten me involved.
7. DA FONT
•
This website assisted me in searching for a font that would look brilliant on
my digipack and advert, I used a curly font on this website to express a
different theme that you would see typical rap artists use on an album cover.
The reason why I chose this is because I wanted to give my artist some
independence in his work by having something that separates him from
stereotypes but still follows the conventions of the genre. I also selected
some type of graffiti font to make it obvious visually that my artist creates
hip-hop and rap music which was extremely effective, this website was
completely helpful as I was able to use these fonts for free instead of paying
for them as other websites wanted to charge me a certain amount.
8. PREZI
•
Prezi is another technology that I chose to use to display my work and to
make it more interactive to my audience, this is similar to slideshare although
this has more of a selection towards animations, presentation and transitions
to a different text on the presentation. This is an effective way to present my
work as it gives me variety compared to slideshare, I also feel this is the best
techniques as the animations and design can be whatever you desire which is
very good towards me trying to make my work look as creative as
possible. This has also been used to display my work on my blogger to make
my work interactive with my audience as they have the ability to explore my
prezi in any shape or form due to the prezi being accessible much more than
slideshare.
9. ADOBE PHOTOSHOP
•
I used adobe photoshop which allowed me to create my digipack and
magazine advert, this was my only alternative I could use to make sure that
my media products was made to the best of their ability. I had a variety of
images on my computer that I wanted to put in my digipack as it would suit
the style of my product. I went through a variety of different styles and
themes which then allowed me to try a new theme that was then inspired by
actual rap artists and it help develop my work to its current outcome. I used
the same techniques when producing my magazine advertisement I used my
own knowledge and my research of music magazines to remember the
conventions, stereotypes and themes to follow when creating my magazine
advertisement.
10. YOUTUBE
•
This is a website that broadcasts videos, films and music from all over the
world, I have chosen to use this simply because this could be a benefit
towards collecting productive feedback from my work and then go on to
promoting my work such as my music video so I can get constructive
feedback and also as I had to embed it on my blog. This had the ability to help
me filter my video so it comes out as crystal clear as possible. It also gave me
a variety of special effects I can add to my video such as making look like it
was a vintage type video. I also uploaded multiple videos in my previous
tasks other than my music video to display my research based on the genre
and personalities that are portrayed in different videos in reality.
11. PORTABLE DEVICES
•
HD Video Camera – I used a high definition video camera which helped me
film my scenes for my music video and also take pictures to show the
evidence of the production throughout my five weeks I had to do so. This had
the ability to give me a boost above students who borrowed equipment as
they didn’t have the same graphics and abilities compared to what my camera
had.
•
IPad (4 th Generation) – My ipad assisted me towards performing research on
my genre ( Hip-Hop ) which was extremely useful as it taught me the generic
conventions and stereotypes of Hip-Hop and Rap. This also gave me access to
watch music videos and interview of artists such as Snoop Dogg, Tupac,
Drake, Tyga and many more. I used an outlook application that gave me the
ability to write notes and download pictures that helped in the production of
the tasks on my blogger.
12. ADOBE PREMIER PRO
•
Premier Pro was simply an alternative from using iMovie, it is software
designed for as iMovie had to many faults throughout the production and
editing of my music video. Premier pro is very useful and less complicated as
iMovie as you can easily import and export videos in a short amount of time
and it wouldn’t crash as you begin to open it. I find that compared to last
year this application has proven to be my main media technology towards
creating music videos and so on as it hasn’t caused as many issues or
difficulties as iMovie did. This application has given me the ability to make
my video appear in clear HD ( 720p ) alongside the fact that it has much more
exciting and creative visual editing abilities.
13. MY CONCLUSION
•
Throughout this whole assignment I have learnt about various techniques
towards promoting music, media conglomerates and also what the
conventions and stereotypes are included in the Hip/Hop and Rap genre.
Alongside learning about my favourite genre of music I have learned a lot
about the industry based on me doing my own personal research, it is a huge
benefit as it teaches me about all the things that would be included in your
typical music video (The music video is available to view below the
presentation). How the industry promotes its artists and products are done
all by using props and typical stereotypical items such as specific clothing (
Urban), money, expensive vehicles and golden jewellery. This overall has
given me the opportunity to learn so much about the music industry.
