Objective
I am looking for a network architecture/engineering job where I can leverage my extensive knowledge
of software development. I thrive in environments where employees are encouraged and rewarded for
independently improving existing or inventing new solutions for the duties required on the job. It is
important to me that the company I work for has a strong presence in Minnesota and a good track
record for employee benefits.
Experience
Dec 2009 - Sept 2015 CenturyLink Saint Paul, MN
Sr. Network Engineer – Defense Research and Engineering Network (DREN)
• Consulted on the design of a nation-wide cutting edge Department of Defense (DoD) network
consisting of over 150+ edge nodesserved with 50 Mbps to 40 Gbps Ethernetservice. The first year
of this project was the ramp up to its implementation. Along with two other engineers,I worked on
a daily basis with the network design team. Our knowledge of our edge hardware, underlying
MPLS network, and characteristicsof localincumbent carrier networkshelped the designers avoid
many pitfalls and shape the finalnetworks.
• Coordinated the build out of the network. This involved conferencing with our DoD customer, the
union line workers on location,a provisioning team of contractors, and our backbone engineers.
Under our direction, layer 2 connectivity would be established with the on-site device.Afterwards,
the device would be uniquely configured and brought underour management via SNMPv3 through
the AlcatelSAM(Service Aware Manager)5620.
• Served as the technicaladvisor to my managerfor over a dozen potentialjob candidates. My role
was to probe them with technicalquestions, evaluate their answers, and finally to recommend
whether or not I felt they had the expertise to work on our team.
• I was recognized with our DirectorsAward for spring quarter 2014 formy handling of a security
incident. Sensitive data wasaccidentally leaked to unauthorized personnel. Our government client
was especially impressed with my prompt, concise, and thorough reporting and documentation. It
satisfied their strict guidelines and policies to a degree thatthey requested I personally be cited for
my professionalism on the issue.
• I built and still maintain our team’s website on the MicrosoftSharePoint Platform. The site consists
of severallists of both internaland externallinks,a wikieditable by our team members,a calendar
with upcoming important events, and many other resources.
• Developed and deployed severalJavaScript web forms which standardized email responses and
parsed commands for JuniperMXfirewalls.
Operations Technician – National Network (Commercial)
• Configured and trouble-shotBGP peering with both customer and neighboring networks.
• Personally wrote severalUNIX/Bourne scripts, many of which were distributed amongst my team of
2. roughly 80 technicians. These scripts simplified tasks such assearching large syslog files, presenting
found data in a readable form, and remotely executing command through an SSHconnection.
• Volunteered to take on the responsibilities as our group’sweb administrator. Subsequently wrote or
re-wrote severalpages utilizing HTML,CSS,and JavaScript. My work wasrecognized for
centralizing data, providing time saving tools, and enhancing the user interface.
• Worked closely with the MPLS backbone team to troubleshoot LSP,LDP,ISIS network protocol
issues as wellas the backbone links and provider edge devices.
Customer Support – IBM Integrated Management Team
• This team supported managed customer premise equipment (CPE.) We assisted our customers by
installing and troubleshooting issues from the perspective of the customer edge device, usually a
Cisco 2900.
• Built and Maintained VPN connections which allowed a customers remote site which washoused
on another ISP to connectto their private WAN.
• Wrote & implemented severalprocesses forthe transition from an older ticketing system to new.
