Editor's Notes
Water gives life and so initiation rituals which mark the beginning of a new way of life often involve washing or immersion in water” (Martos, 2001).
John used the same symbol of water and the immersion into the water to illustrate the act of conversion.
Jesus presented himself to John the Baptist in the River Jordan to baptized, before He started His public ministry. One can glean thereafter that the followers of Jesus themselves preached and baptized those who expressed their faith in Jesus and believed in the coming of God’s kingdom. (John 3:22-23)
The priest speaks to the parents of their responsibility to bring up the child in the faith and the role of godparents by assisting the parents.
It follows the reading of Liturgy of the Word of God. Then the child is then brought to the baptismal font.
