Essay about Winter and Sunny Weather Systems
Weather is a fascinating subject. It is such an intricate and amazing process, which our mother earth goes through on a daily basis. All over the world,
weather seems to be a very important aspect for our everyday lives. For instance; sunny weather can bring on a very harmonious and beautiful
atmosphere, while cloudy and rainy weather can bring about tragedy. In 1998; the earth experienced an El Nino which brought on fierce weather,
flooding, and hurricanes. Weather systems are very broad and detailed, so please; sit back and enjoy as I attempt to tackle the subject of weather
systems.
Throughout my essay, I will be using the scientific methodology in my research methods to determine what I know, what I want...show more content...
Within them, cool, moist, unstable conditions happen throughout the year.
Another difference between winter and summer is the Sub polar Low Pressure cells, or in other words, the North Pacific Aleutian Low, and the North
Atlantic Icelandic Low. Both cells are dominant in winter and weaker or disappear in summer with the strengthening of high–pressure systems in the
subtropics.
If you were to look at a global pressure map, you would find several high–pressure areas. The Pacific High, or Eastern Pacific High is one of these. The
Eastern Pacific high is located East of Hawaii where the Pacific Ocean meets California. It dominates the Pacific in July, and retreats southward in
January. The entire high–pressure system migrates with the summer high sun while fluctuating about 5*–10* in latitude. The Eastern sides of these
anticyclonic systems are drier and more stable which means that there was less convective activity. There are cooler ocean currants than the Western
sides.
Inductively thinking, we know that California is set up with Valleys, mountain ranges, and coastal regions, which means that we are prone to many
weather effects. Deductively, I know that orographic lifting is very prominent on the coastal regions of California. The physical presence of a
mountain acts as a barrier to migrating air masses. Orographic lifting occurs when the air is forcibly lifted upslope

Rainfall Essay
Currently a number of studies have been focused on OND rainfall variability over East African region since it has shown more inter–annual variability
than long rainy season in MAM (Hastenrath et al., 1993; Black et al., 2003). It was considered that rainfall in East Africa was influenced by ENSO
(Indeje et al., 2000). However, in some extent Black, 2005 noted that East African rainfall is connected with ENSO and IOD. Previously it was
assumed that the Indian Ocean did not have an inter–annual ocean–atmosphere coupling cycle, it was being forced primarily by the annual monsoon
cycle and connection with global scale oceanic circulations systems such as ENSO and Tropical Atlantic Variability (TVA). But the work done by Saji
et al., 1999...show more content...
This causes low–level convergence and upper–level divergence over East Africa, producing anomalously wet 'short–rains' in most of the region. By
expanding this idea Mutai and Ward, (2000) explained that during El NiГ±o events are associated warming of the Indian Ocean and that anomalous
cold SSTs are introduced to the south Indian Ocean around the Maritime Continent via the Indonesian through flow. These cold SST anomalies are
responsible to southerly winds along–shore causing upwelling of colder waters (Xie and Annamalai, 2002). This generates an east–west sea–level
pressure gradient that drives moist easterly wind across the Indian Ocean towards East Africa and hence precipitation over the region. Furthermore,
Behera et al. 2006 noted that ENSO could delay the formation of the IOD until boreal summer, and IOD events independent from ENSO would form
as early as the boreal spring. It is found that ENSO variability affects the periodicity, strength, and the formation processes of the IOD. Indian Ocean
Dipole is a coupled ocean–atmosphere phenomenon over the Indian Ocean; it occurs inter–annually in the tropical parts of the Indian Ocean with a
periodic oscillation of sea–surface temperatures between negative and positive phases across the Indian Ocean which initiates in summer (around
May–June), intensify through July–September, peak in the boreal

Descriptive Essay About Spring
Spring is such a wonderful and joyful season. The air begins to warm, and the temperature rises slowly. Not only that, but the days seem to be getting
longer as well. As the snow begins to melt in northern America, the lovely flowers begin to bud and the flies begin to come out. The tree buds starts
greening and preparing itself to grow. The air smells different as opposed towinter, it smells fresh and alive. Spring wraps up winter, and leads on to
the hot and humid season called summer. Spring is the season that prepares itself for the next season, as forestry is starting to grow and thrive. The
animal kingdom also uses spring to mate. The bears that were hibernating no longer have to hibernate. The smell of freshly cut grass also goes through
the warm spring air.
The grouchy people of winter also start to become happy again. Most people dislike winter as it cold and the driving condition are not great.
However in spring, everything is having life, or coming back to life; as well as their spirits. Spring is finally the time where people can finally eat
outside, open up the window to let fresh air in. Nothing is better than seeing the neon green trees and grass shining through the low amounts of snow
that might still be left behind by Mother Nature. The farming trade also begins in spring; the farmers begin to plant their vegetables so they can
harvest them when the time is right. Spring also has a very nice holiday, Easter. Families gather at each other's houses and

Weather Descriptive Essay
First Draft Weather has a way of making people feel a certain way, by affecting their mood. Bright and sunny weather tends to make people happier,
while dull and dreary weather brings about less appealing emotions, such as grumpiness, sadness, or fear. Tornado weather, especially in tornado
alley, is a source of emotion. For many people living in tornado alley, tornado season offers a mix of fear and excitement. However, for most, when
the tornado is actually present, fear tends to take over and the excitement is lost. The tornado that occured on May 20th, 2013 was a great example of
how a tornado can turn from exhilirating to terrifying. This past tornado season, the weather was naturally stormy, but nothing of great concern had

When she got there, I ran outside and jumped in the car, slamming the door shut behind me, but I realized that i had forgotten my purse. Trying to
hurry, i ran back inside like an olympic sprinter and got it. On the drive back home, the storm seemed to be clearing up, but soon it started to hail

people's moods. At first the storm seemed exciting; getting to leave work and school early sounded like a good thing. However, throughout the day,
little things happened that made it no longer be so exciting. And eventually, that excitement was gone and it was replaced by

There are four different seasons in each year. These four seasons include Summer, Winter, Fall, and Spring. Each season affects various aspects of our
everyday lives in their own way. For Example, winter and summer changes almost everything that we do during both of the times that each season
occurs. Some differences of summer and winter is temperature changes and precipitation changes. One similarity is that the Olympics are taken place in
both seasons. Many people view winter and summer as antonyms; however, the two seasons share some similarities.
One of the differences of winter and summer is the temperatures. The summer is most likely everyone`s favorite season. Because of the variation of
temperatures between the two seasons,...show more content...
Another one of the differences between the two seasons is the average precipitation. During the winter, rainfall is more present than rainfall in the
summer. Nobody likes a rainy day. People are more likely to feel happy during a day with lots of sunshine. There are many fun and entertaining
games to do on a rainy day, but many people still prefer to go outside on a sunny day and enjoy different kinds of activities. Also, because of the
precipitation in the winter, more car wrecks are likely to happen. During the summer car wrecks are not as bad as they are in the winter because of the
dry ground and seldom rainfall. The average winter precipitation in the state of Alabama is 5.37 inches(136 millimeters). The average summer
precipitation for the state of Alabama is 4.62 inches(117 millimeters). Also the average winter precipitation for the state of Arizona is 1.23 inches(31
millimeters). The average summer precipitation for the state of Arizona is 1.38 inches(35 millimeters).
On the other hand, winter and summer have some similarities, such as the Olympics, season extremes, and the different holidays that take place in each
season. There are two different types of Olympics, the Winter Olympics and the Summer Olympics. During the Summer Olympics events like tennis,
hockey, and golf are taken place. During the winter Olympics events like snowboarding, ice hockey, and figure

Narrative Essay About A Rainy Day
So when do i get?" questioned Jacob."I have it," I replied. It was a dark cloudy rainy day on friday many people say Friday is a good day but not for
me. We were on the four step stage at delta vista middle school when he questioned me.
I was too nice back then,i couldn't say no to my best friend Jacob. It was my pearl white samsung galaxy s4 which wasn't that old back then in
sixth grade. Jacob made me feel bad that he doesn't have a phone, I was extremely heart broken that I interrupted and said "I have a phone that i don't
use anymore." I didn't realize what I had just done. He started asking me everyday "did you bring it?" I replied "No".
I woke up out of a deep sleep on a Friday at 6:30 AM, the window was creaked open and there was a slight soft breeze. I went to the sink, which is
only 18 steps away from my bed, i open the door and it was a mess, the sink had drops of toothpaste hanging. I washed my face with my foam face
wash it felt light as a feather in my hand as I rubbed around my face. I heard the notification ringtone go on and then i imagined jacob a chubby
white boy with green eyes and a hair that was curly on the top but not on the edges. I look straight to the phone and read in my mind "it's time to
go" then i go ahead and finish up at the sink by brushing my teeth. I walked back to my drawer mumbling "what did i do,what did i do?" I go ahead
and wear my black pants with my grey shirt and then over that i throw on a grey sweater.
I walked up to my phone, laying near my dark brown wooden bunk bed. I unplugged the charger and my phone and then i turned it over and popped
out the back and took out the battery so it doesn't turn on, on accident. After that i stuffed it into my messy backpack with crumpled paper
everywhere so that way if anybody wants to go in my bag they would think that oh it's just filled with junk. I went downstairs to grab a gogurt XL
and some water because whenever i would wake up i would be parched. After that I just wasted my time by doing absolutely nothing all i did is just sit
in my bed and relax. Not to mention I will have to hop on my ocean dark blue bmx bike and head to school.
I got to school and locked up my bike at the bike rack, I head into the cafeteria

Argumentative Essay : Summer Is The Best
The four seasons, winter, summer, autumn and spring fly by like Lightning Mcqueen from the movie Cars, racing to the finish line. When you talk
about the seasons everybody has a different perspective to it. Some might say summer is the best, due to there being no school, also the hot weather.
Many may argue that Spring is the best, because of the plants coming back to life after months in the grave. Finally, some people believe that autumn
is the best, because of the fact that it has comfortable weather and the colors of the trees. All the seasons are great, but after you're done reading this
you'll know that winter is the best season in my opinion. For instance, winter is MVP due to the outdoor activities, beautiful scenery it brings,...show

When all's said and done winter offers variety of sports and activities you can play and just have fun. In addition, winter has such beautiful scenery
you would think you are in a museum. For example, when snow hits ground and forms the endless, angelic sheet of white crystal it is unlike any
feeling anyone has ever felt. Think about it, you wake up one day to see snow fluttering around outside and it is an amazing sight. So, you ask to
go outside, sure you have to get a snow suit on or something to keep you warm but, it's all worth it once you go outside and you feel the icy crystals
float around you. You will feel like Elsa., Ok, I'm done with the references. Besides the point, When people go outside and they see this god–like work
of art they want to take pictures of it and the landscape just looks so awesome with the sunset in the background with snow falling creating this
masterpiece that can only be recreated during the awesome season of winter. As a human and a teenager, I can tell you that when you go outside
after a snowstorm it is the most breathtaking experience ever, due to the painting of white splashed around every corner. As a final note, winter is
one of the only season's that give us a "Paesaggio Fantastico". It's italian for Awesome Landscape and it describes this season very well. As a final
point, when winter comes around, holidays flood in like water into a bathtub. Just some examples, New Years eve/Day, Christmas and, the winter
solstice.

Dengue Fever : Causes And Effects
Dengue Fever in Thailand
Dengue Fever has been around for many years. Approximately 50 to 100 million people become infected annually (World Health Organization,
2014). Despite that massive number of cases, only a small percentage occurs within the United States. The burden of the disease does not present the
same urgency in the US as it does for people who live in the tropics and subtropics, because the mosquitoes that act as vectors are not found in the
colder climates. The disease is more prominent in the Asian and Latin American countries. One of the most affected Asian country is Thailand with its
last year's136, 000 cases of infection. With the cost of hospitalization and prescriptions, and the loss of income from absence, Dengue Fever accounts
for majority of the economic burden from the effects of the disease on the health of Thailand's population.
Dengue Fever is transmitted by the bite of an infected Aedes mosquito. They typically bite during the day, particularly in the early morning and in the
evening, but they are able to bite and thus spread infection at any time of day all during the year. Nonetheless, the incidence of Dengue Fever increases
as rainy season progresses due to the fact that the vectors breed in places where rain water has been accumulated. The rain season in Thailand starts
from the month of May through September, it is in these months the dengue fever cases are most prominent. World Health Organization claims that 19

Descriptive Essay On A Rainy Season
Cumulus clouds gather in the east and stand towering like pillars from a mythological age. Crashing together, the friction causes the huge clouds to
glow eerily from the inside out. They quickly grew angrier, launching their bolts of lightning toward earth. The air becomes thick with humidity and the
wind starts to blow. The ground trembles from the claps of thunder that echo past and reverberate back off of the mountains; it's a deafening roar. Here
in the Southwestern United States in late summer; the days are brutally long, scorching hot, and the ground is cracked and dry. This is the monsoon
season.
On a hot day, cooling off by the lake is what I like to do. It seems as though everyone else has the same idea. The boaters are out in full force
skimming along the water in their crafts. Families are camped by the water's edge under tarps for shade. They mindfully watch their little ones play
and splash in the water. As the day wears on, the boaters leisurely find their way back to the launch ramps. The families round up the kids, pack up
their gear and head back to the homestead. Everything was calm and tranquil, and the only sounds were the gentle waves breaking on the shore. Then
a flash of light catches my eye, I turn to look and I see a monster approaching.
Moments later, everything went silent and still. The birds are no longer singing their joyful song. The lake became wave less and serene. I could feel
the pressure of the atmosphere weighing down on me like a heavy burden. This is what is called the calm before the storm. Like a whisper the wind
gently blew across my face and rustled my hair filling it with static electricity. Then the wind started its fury–the hot blowing sand stung as it hit my
skin. It burned my eyes and filled my nose. I could taste the grit in my mouth. The trees bent over without mercy and whiplashed back the other
way. The lake turned a dark electric green and the waves rolled violently with caps of white. And not too far off in the distance, cells of rain kicked
up the dust and made steam rise as the speeding rain reached the parched ground. The sky grew black as the imposing clouds illuminated a glowing
white. They were filled with flashes of light that danced erratically

Descriptive Essay On Rain
It's cool and dark outside of the car as we drive, dark clouds hovering over the plains as fat, heavy drops of water fall from the full clouds. The lights
of cars and streetlights and cars blur with the flow of water on the side windows, our speed not fast enough to force the drops to flow back along
the windows. It's not until we start on the highway and the water starts to move that I find my objects of interest in front of me in the form of the
rain and the memories of my childhood that surface with them. The rain on the windshield was and still is pleasant to watch. The way the drops
clump together and make small rivers that travel up the window before being slashed at by the windshield wiper. It's calming to watch the water
move as it wants, making new trails as the wind fights to push the raindrops upwards. It reminds me of a sort of game I used to play when I was
little and watched the rain run across the windows. I used to always imagine that the rain that gathered at the bottom of the window near the wiper
motors where all the little water people that needed to get away because they were trapped there unless they could collect into a big fat drop that
could carry them out of reach of the wipers when it went by. I always imagined that they were escaping to little space pods that would bring them
to the outer edge of the window that I considered to be outer space where it was safe, and the side windows as the paths they had to take to get
home. When I was young this little game would entertain me on long car rides. I was never fond of the windshield wipers. The way the black arms
would come to push away all the escaping water, cutting off the paths of the little droplets and flinging some away while shoving the rest back into the
bottom of the window. As a child, it made me frustrated that it would always ruin the departure of the make–believe escape pods. I hated the sound the
wipers would occasionally make when the window was too dry to give it a slick path to slide over. It was also ugly and reminded me of some sort of
weird arm that was devoid of muscle or flesh, much like a skeleton which was fitting. The windshield wiper represented death and failure of the
hopeful, little traveling droplets;

Soldiers that come back from war, tend to suffer from what they have gone through. Tim O'Brien, a soldier in the Vietnam war, wrote a best selling
collection of short stories titled The Things They Carried. He, along with other soldier tend to experience how delicate the human heart can be. A
heart is a very delicate sensitive part of the body and can really affect soldiers in any way shape or form when it comes to a war.
Even before Tim O'Brien stepped onto the battlefield, the war had already damaged his heart. In the short story "On the Rainy River" Tim O'Brien
opened up a letter that would change his mind forever: "I remember opening up the letter, scanning the first few lines, feeling the blood go thick behind

Mentally soldiers have to deal with brutal things that the war throws at them causing their hearts to suffer. In the short story, "The Things They

would have to carry like a stone in his stomach for the rest of the war" (16). Cross is convinced that his feelings for a Martha contributed to
Lavender's death. Because his feelings were so strong, he wasn't as focused as he should've been, which costed him a buddy. This is a true eye
awakening in how powerful the heart and the feelings that come along with it is. Cross could only think about Martha and yes, this distraction helped

Depression rates skyrocket during the dark and dreary seasons. This condition is known as Seasonal Affective Disorder. About 5
–percent of adults in
the United States live with this condition. The loss of sunlight and increase of poor weather – snow, rain, wind– contribute to the severity of the
disorder. During the fall and winter months, it often rains. This is one contributing factor to SAD. Although rain can be light and happy, it can also
be extremely harsh. Thunderstorms are often present during heavy rainstorms. The electric flashes of light bring about nothing but fear; the
pounding rain only intensifies the storm. It is easy to see why the mere sight of rain depresses some people. When rain is mentioned, I think of
light ecstatic sprinkling. However, because of the different experiences each individual has, the opposite conclusion could be made. Rain drops
strongly resemble teardrops. Because of this astounding resemblance, a connection between sad teardrops and rain is made. During a rain storm,
the sky is not clear and blue; it is murky and gray. Colors have feelings associated with them. Blue is happy and bubbly while gray is sad and dull. A
depressed person will take a quick look at the rain and jump back in their beds.

Almost all energy that determines the weather and seasons is solar energy. The amount of solar energy that reaches theEarth varies due to the path of
the Sun in the local sky and the length of daylight. Since the Earth is in a constant elliptical rotation around the sun, the Earth is never stagnant. In fact,
there are two rotations that the Earth is in at all times. The first is a once a day rotation on its axis and the second is a once per year revolution around
the Sun. With the Earth always changing location, the weather is constantly changing due to the varying of its exposure to the Sun. According to the
American Meteorological Society, other factors that contribute to the change of weather include nearness to bodies of water, topographical features,
and migrations of weather systems. Also, the interaction of radiation with the Earth's atmosphere is another factor. Energy can be reflected and
absorbed by the Earth's atmosphere, varying the actual amount of solar energy that reaches the Earth's surface. Due to these variables, it is not
uncommon for weather to fluctuate despite the location of Earth on its rotation. The solar energy that reaches Earth also affects the water cycle. This
cycle in turn affects the weather by producing rain, snow, cyclones, and other weather events. The biggest factor in not only the changing of weather
but also the seasons, is the Earth's axis. The reason for different seasons is attributed to the Earth's axis.

The impact of rainfall on rain–fed crop production can be related to its total seasonal amount or its intra–seasonal distribution. In the extreme case of
droughts, with very low total seasonal amounts, crop production suffers the most. But more subtle intra–seasonal variations in rainfall distribution
during crop growing periods, without a change in the total seasonal amount, can also cause substantial reductions in yields. This means that the
number of rainy days during the growing period is as important, if not more, as that of the seasonal total. Generally, the effect of rainfall variability
on crop production varies with types of crops cultivated, types and properties of soils and climatic conditions of a given area. Moreover, studies
indicated that uncertainties due to rainfall variability and the subsequent potential risk of crop failure influence the decision of smallholder by making
them not willing to invest on improved seeds and fertilizer to avert the financial risks and hence harvest low output (Rockströma et al., 2002). The
severity of the impact (bio–physical impact) of rainfall variability on crop yield of a given area depends on the types of crops grown and the growth
stage the crops (Brouwer et al., 1989) mainly due to differences in sensitivity of type and growing stage of crops. 2.4.1Growth stage of crops
sensitive to impacts of moisture stress The total growing season of an annual crop can be divided into four growth stages (FAO, 1986): the initial

A Rainy Day And The Temperatures
The Path 1.Today is a rainy day and the temperature has been in the low forties all day. The environment has shaped my behavior immensely
today. I tend to be extremely productive on rainy days. I love the rain and it puts me in a mellow happy mood and when I'm in those moods I tend
to do things to improve my day of life like cleaning and doing homework. "Tweaking the environment is about making the right behaviors a little
bit easier and the wrong behavior a little bit harder." I am actually writing a majority of this paper today, which happens to be black Friday. Usually
on black Friday my parents make my brother and I leave the house. My mom and dad go shopping early in the morning and wrap a lot of the
presents later in the day. Since it was raining and I was kicked out of the house for the greater good, I figured I would trap myself in Starbucks and
crank out as much work as I could. Having the change of setting and mood of the environment around me I was able to stay more focused than I
would have if I were trying to do work on my kitchen table. I am a person who gets easily distracted so shaping the environment to make change
easier for me would consist of trial and error for what works. Trying new things and recording their outcome, then sticking to what works best it a great

On The Rainy River Chapter Analysis
In a later discussion, O'Brien said the chapter "On The Rainy River" is not a true story. The chapter is a fictionalized account of what would've
happened if he ran away to avoid the draft like he wanted to. This same strategy was applied when he wrote "The Sweetheart of the Song Tra
Bong". While O'Brien was in Vietnam, Someone likely joked about how easy it would be to bring a girl to their base. He takes the concept and makes
uses it as a vehicle to discuss innocence. We are even told in the beginning to the chapter that the story comes from Rat Kiley who has a history of
exaggeration and spicing up stories (Citation Needed for Paraphrase)

One prominent example of this is comparing how both Tim and Mary Anne say the war makes them feel. When he is in the hospital, Tim says he
"missed the adventure....of real war out in the boonies" (183). Contrasted with Mary Anne who loves how war makes her feel. She says"you can't
feel like that anywhere else" (106). The way war makes someone feel is the common strand between these two parts of the book. Tim's experience and
the way war made him feel is again repeated through Mary Anne's character.
Another time when a soldier's experience is projected onto Mary Anne is comparing how Mary Anne started to become quieter along with some
of Rat Kiley's experiences towards the end of his tenure in Vietnam. After Mary Anne had been involved with the war for a few weeks, "she fell
into a restless gloom" (O'Brien 100). Along with the change in emotional state, she began to physically isolate herself (O'Brien 100). This part of
Mary Anne's transformation is a projection of what happened to Rat Kiley later in the book. The entire chapter of "Night Life" discusses how the
war changed the once bright and zany Rat Kiley into someone barely able to function. As his physical and mental condition began to be impacted by
the trauma he has seen, he "[sank] inside inside himself" (O'Brien 209). He "wouldn't say a word" (O'Brien 209). The silence overcame Rat Kiley is an

Essay About Winter And Sunny Weather Systems

  • 1. Essay about Winter and Sunny Weather Systems Weather is a fascinating subject. It is such an intricate and amazing process, which our mother earth goes through on a daily basis. All over the world, weather seems to be a very important aspect for our everyday lives. For instance; sunny weather can bring on a very harmonious and beautiful atmosphere, while cloudy and rainy weather can bring about tragedy. In 1998; the earth experienced an El Nino which brought on fierce weather, flooding, and hurricanes. Weather systems are very broad and detailed, so please; sit back and enjoy as I attempt to tackle the subject of weather systems. Throughout my essay, I will be using the scientific methodology in my research methods to determine what I know, what I want...show more content... Within them, cool, moist, unstable conditions happen throughout the year. Another difference between winter and summer is the Sub polar Low Pressure cells, or in other words, the North Pacific Aleutian Low, and the North Atlantic Icelandic Low. Both cells are dominant in winter and weaker or disappear in summer with the strengthening of high–pressure systems in the subtropics. If you were to look at a global pressure map, you would find several high–pressure areas. The Pacific High, or Eastern Pacific High is one of these. The Eastern Pacific high is located East of Hawaii where the Pacific Ocean meets California. It dominates the Pacific in July, and retreats southward in January. The entire high–pressure system migrates with the summer high sun while fluctuating about 5*–10* in latitude. The Eastern sides of these anticyclonic systems are drier and more stable which means that there was less convective activity. There are cooler ocean currants than the Western sides. Inductively thinking, we know that California is set up with Valleys, mountain ranges, and coastal regions, which means that we are prone to many weather effects. Deductively, I know that orographic lifting is very prominent on the coastal regions of California. The physical presence of a mountain acts as a barrier to migrating air masses. Orographic lifting occurs when the air is forcibly lifted upslope Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Rainfall Essay Currently a number of studies have been focused on OND rainfall variability over East African region since it has shown more inter–annual variability than long rainy season in MAM (Hastenrath et al., 1993; Black et al., 2003). It was considered that rainfall in East Africa was influenced by ENSO (Indeje et al., 2000). However, in some extent Black, 2005 noted that East African rainfall is connected with ENSO and IOD. Previously it was assumed that the Indian Ocean did not have an inter–annual ocean–atmosphere coupling cycle, it was being forced primarily by the annual monsoon cycle and connection with global scale oceanic circulations systems such as ENSO and Tropical Atlantic Variability (TVA). But the work done by Saji et al., 1999...show more content... This causes low–level convergence and upper–level divergence over East Africa, producing anomalously wet 'short–rains' in most of the region. By expanding this idea Mutai and Ward, (2000) explained that during El NiГ±o events are associated warming of the Indian Ocean and that anomalous cold SSTs are introduced to the south Indian Ocean around the Maritime Continent via the Indonesian through flow. These cold SST anomalies are responsible to southerly winds along–shore causing upwelling of colder waters (Xie and Annamalai, 2002). This generates an east–west sea–level pressure gradient that drives moist easterly wind across the Indian Ocean towards East Africa and hence precipitation over the region. Furthermore, Behera et al. 2006 noted that ENSO could delay the formation of the IOD until boreal summer, and IOD events independent from ENSO would form as early as the boreal spring. It is found that ENSO variability affects the periodicity, strength, and the formation processes of the IOD. Indian Ocean Dipole is a coupled ocean–atmosphere phenomenon over the Indian Ocean; it occurs inter–annually in the tropical parts of the Indian Ocean with a periodic oscillation of sea–surface temperatures between negative and positive phases across the Indian Ocean which initiates in summer (around May–June), intensify through July–September, peak in the boreal Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Descriptive Essay About Spring Spring is such a wonderful and joyful season. The air begins to warm, and the temperature rises slowly. Not only that, but the days seem to be getting longer as well. As the snow begins to melt in northern America, the lovely flowers begin to bud and the flies begin to come out. The tree buds starts greening and preparing itself to grow. The air smells different as opposed towinter, it smells fresh and alive. Spring wraps up winter, and leads on to the hot and humid season called summer. Spring is the season that prepares itself for the next season, as forestry is starting to grow and thrive. The animal kingdom also uses spring to mate. The bears that were hibernating no longer have to hibernate. The smell of freshly cut grass also goes through the warm spring air. The grouchy people of winter also start to become happy again. Most people dislike winter as it cold and the driving condition are not great. However in spring, everything is having life, or coming back to life; as well as their spirits. Spring is finally the time where people can finally eat outside, open up the window to let fresh air in. Nothing is better than seeing the neon green trees and grass shining through the low amounts of snow that might still be left behind by Mother Nature. The farming trade also begins in spring; the farmers begin to plant their vegetables so they can harvest them when the time is right. Spring also has a very nice holiday, Easter. Families gather at each other's houses and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Weather Descriptive Essay First Draft Weather has a way of making people feel a certain way, by affecting their mood. Bright and sunny weather tends to make people happier, while dull and dreary weather brings about less appealing emotions, such as grumpiness, sadness, or fear. Tornado weather, especially in tornado alley, is a source of emotion. For many people living in tornado alley, tornado season offers a mix of fear and excitement. However, for most, when the tornado is actually present, fear tends to take over and the excitement is lost. The tornado that occured on May 20th, 2013 was a great example of how a tornado can turn from exhilirating to terrifying. This past tornado season, the weather was naturally stormy, but nothing of great concern had ...show more content... Her voice shrill and incredilous, she told me that she called my boss twenty minutes before and asked that i come home. By the time that I was told, the storm was raging. I shakily told her that i was scared to drive since my car had been messing up, so she offered to come pick me up. When she got there, I ran outside and jumped in the car, slamming the door shut behind me, but I realized that i had forgotten my purse. Trying to hurry, i ran back inside like an olympic sprinter and got it. On the drive back home, the storm seemed to be clearing up, but soon it started to hail and the rain was so thick that we couldnt see the road. Finally, we made it home and got inside. By that time, the storm had gone around us, so we began to relax. We turned on the news and stared in awe at the devestation that had befallen Moore. As we all sat there taking in the sight, a shrill ring filled the air. My aunt answered her phone to find that it was her son, Derek, who was in the Army. He had been called to help in the clean up of the wreckage. She cried and wished him good luck. She knew that what he saw would be life changing. This just shows how weather can affect people's moods. At first the storm seemed exciting; getting to leave work and school early sounded like a good thing. However, throughout the day, little things happened that made it no longer be so exciting. And eventually, that excitement was gone and it was replaced by Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. There are four different seasons in each year. These four seasons include Summer, Winter, Fall, and Spring. Each season affects various aspects of our everyday lives in their own way. For Example, winter and summer changes almost everything that we do during both of the times that each season occurs. Some differences of summer and winter is temperature changes and precipitation changes. One similarity is that the Olympics are taken place in both seasons. Many people view winter and summer as antonyms; however, the two seasons share some similarities. One of the differences of winter and summer is the temperatures. The summer is most likely everyone`s favorite season. Because of the variation of temperatures between the two seasons,...show more content... Another one of the differences between the two seasons is the average precipitation. During the winter, rainfall is more present than rainfall in the summer. Nobody likes a rainy day. People are more likely to feel happy during a day with lots of sunshine. There are many fun and entertaining games to do on a rainy day, but many people still prefer to go outside on a sunny day and enjoy different kinds of activities. Also, because of the precipitation in the winter, more car wrecks are likely to happen. During the summer car wrecks are not as bad as they are in the winter because of the dry ground and seldom rainfall. The average winter precipitation in the state of Alabama is 5.37 inches(136 millimeters). The average summer precipitation for the state of Alabama is 4.62 inches(117 millimeters). Also the average winter precipitation for the state of Arizona is 1.23 inches(31 millimeters). The average summer precipitation for the state of Arizona is 1.38 inches(35 millimeters). On the other hand, winter and summer have some similarities, such as the Olympics, season extremes, and the different holidays that take place in each season. There are two different types of Olympics, the Winter Olympics and the Summer Olympics. During the Summer Olympics events like tennis, hockey, and golf are taken place. During the winter Olympics events like snowboarding, ice hockey, and figure Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Narrative Essay About A Rainy Day So when do i get?" questioned Jacob."I have it," I replied. It was a dark cloudy rainy day on friday many people say Friday is a good day but not for me. We were on the four step stage at delta vista middle school when he questioned me. I was too nice back then,i couldn't say no to my best friend Jacob. It was my pearl white samsung galaxy s4 which wasn't that old back then in sixth grade. Jacob made me feel bad that he doesn't have a phone, I was extremely heart broken that I interrupted and said "I have a phone that i don't use anymore." I didn't realize what I had just done. He started asking me everyday "did you bring it?" I replied "No". I woke up out of a deep sleep on a Friday at 6:30 AM, the window was creaked open and there was a slight soft breeze. I went to the sink, which is only 18 steps away from my bed, i open the door and it was a mess, the sink had drops of toothpaste hanging. I washed my face with my foam face wash it felt light as a feather in my hand as I rubbed around my face. I heard the notification ringtone go on and then i imagined jacob a chubby white boy with green eyes and a hair that was curly on the top but not on the edges. I look straight to the phone and read in my mind "it's time to go" then i go ahead and finish up at the sink by brushing my teeth. I walked back to my drawer mumbling "what did i do,what did i do?" I go ahead and wear my black pants with my grey shirt and then over that i throw on a grey sweater. I walked up to my phone, laying near my dark brown wooden bunk bed. I unplugged the charger and my phone and then i turned it over and popped out the back and took out the battery so it doesn't turn on, on accident. After that i stuffed it into my messy backpack with crumpled paper everywhere so that way if anybody wants to go in my bag they would think that oh it's just filled with junk. I went downstairs to grab a gogurt XL and some water because whenever i would wake up i would be parched. After that I just wasted my time by doing absolutely nothing all i did is just sit in my bed and relax. Not to mention I will have to hop on my ocean dark blue bmx bike and head to school. I got to school and locked up my bike at the bike rack, I head into the cafeteria Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Argumentative Essay : Summer Is The Best The four seasons, winter, summer, autumn and spring fly by like Lightning Mcqueen from the movie Cars, racing to the finish line. When you talk about the seasons everybody has a different perspective to it. Some might say summer is the best, due to there being no school, also the hot weather. Many may argue that Spring is the best, because of the plants coming back to life after months in the grave. Finally, some people believe that autumn is the best, because of the fact that it has comfortable weather and the colors of the trees. All the seasons are great, but after you're done reading this you'll know that winter is the best season in my opinion. For instance, winter is MVP due to the outdoor activities, beautiful scenery it brings,...show more content... When all's said and done winter offers variety of sports and activities you can play and just have fun. In addition, winter has such beautiful scenery you would think you are in a museum. For example, when snow hits ground and forms the endless, angelic sheet of white crystal it is unlike any feeling anyone has ever felt. Think about it, you wake up one day to see snow fluttering around outside and it is an amazing sight. So, you ask to go outside, sure you have to get a snow suit on or something to keep you warm but, it's all worth it once you go outside and you feel the icy crystals float around you. You will feel like Elsa., Ok, I'm done with the references. Besides the point, When people go outside and they see this god–like work of art they want to take pictures of it and the landscape just looks so awesome with the sunset in the background with snow falling creating this masterpiece that can only be recreated during the awesome season of winter. As a human and a teenager, I can tell you that when you go outside after a snowstorm it is the most breathtaking experience ever, due to the painting of white splashed around every corner. As a final note, winter is one of the only season's that give us a "Paesaggio Fantastico". It's italian for Awesome Landscape and it describes this season very well. As a final point, when winter comes around, holidays flood in like water into a bathtub. Just some examples, New Years eve/Day, Christmas and, the winter solstice. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Dengue Fever : Causes And Effects Dengue Fever in Thailand Dengue Fever has been around for many years. Approximately 50 to 100 million people become infected annually (World Health Organization, 2014). Despite that massive number of cases, only a small percentage occurs within the United States. The burden of the disease does not present the same urgency in the US as it does for people who live in the tropics and subtropics, because the mosquitoes that act as vectors are not found in the colder climates. The disease is more prominent in the Asian and Latin American countries. One of the most affected Asian country is Thailand with its last year's136, 000 cases of infection. With the cost of hospitalization and prescriptions, and the loss of income from absence, Dengue Fever accounts for majority of the economic burden from the effects of the disease on the health of Thailand's population. Dengue Fever is transmitted by the bite of an infected Aedes mosquito. They typically bite during the day, particularly in the early morning and in the evening, but they are able to bite and thus spread infection at any time of day all during the year. Nonetheless, the incidence of Dengue Fever increases as rainy season progresses due to the fact that the vectors breed in places where rain water has been accumulated. The rain season in Thailand starts from the month of May through September, it is in these months the dengue fever cases are most prominent. World Health Organization claims that 19 provinces in Thailand Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Descriptive Essay On A Rainy Season Cumulus clouds gather in the east and stand towering like pillars from a mythological age. Crashing together, the friction causes the huge clouds to glow eerily from the inside out. They quickly grew angrier, launching their bolts of lightning toward earth. The air becomes thick with humidity and the wind starts to blow. The ground trembles from the claps of thunder that echo past and reverberate back off of the mountains; it's a deafening roar. Here in the Southwestern United States in late summer; the days are brutally long, scorching hot, and the ground is cracked and dry. This is the monsoon season. On a hot day, cooling off by the lake is what I like to do. It seems as though everyone else has the same idea. The boaters are out in full force skimming along the water in their crafts. Families are camped by the water's edge under tarps for shade. They mindfully watch their little ones play and splash in the water. As the day wears on, the boaters leisurely find their way back to the launch ramps. The families round up the kids, pack up their gear and head back to the homestead. Everything was calm and tranquil, and the only sounds were the gentle waves breaking on the shore. Then a flash of light catches my eye, I turn to look and I see a monster approaching. Moments later, everything went silent and still. The birds are no longer singing their joyful song. The lake became wave less and serene. I could feel the pressure of the atmosphere weighing down on me like a heavy burden. This is what is called the calm before the storm. Like a whisper the wind gently blew across my face and rustled my hair filling it with static electricity. Then the wind started its fury–the hot blowing sand stung as it hit my skin. It burned my eyes and filled my nose. I could taste the grit in my mouth. The trees bent over without mercy and whiplashed back the other way. The lake turned a dark electric green and the waves rolled violently with caps of white. And not too far off in the distance, cells of rain kicked up the dust and made steam rise as the speeding rain reached the parched ground. The sky grew black as the imposing clouds illuminated a glowing white. They were filled with flashes of light that danced erratically Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Descriptive Essay On Rain It's cool and dark outside of the car as we drive, dark clouds hovering over the plains as fat, heavy drops of water fall from the full clouds. The lights of cars and streetlights and cars blur with the flow of water on the side windows, our speed not fast enough to force the drops to flow back along the windows. It's not until we start on the highway and the water starts to move that I find my objects of interest in front of me in the form of the rain and the memories of my childhood that surface with them. The rain on the windshield was and still is pleasant to watch. The way the drops clump together and make small rivers that travel up the window before being slashed at by the windshield wiper. It's calming to watch the water move as it wants, making new trails as the wind fights to push the raindrops upwards. It reminds me of a sort of game I used to play when I was little and watched the rain run across the windows. I used to always imagine that the rain that gathered at the bottom of the window near the wiper motors where all the little water people that needed to get away because they were trapped there unless they could collect into a big fat drop that could carry them out of reach of the wipers when it went by. I always imagined that they were escaping to little space pods that would bring them to the outer edge of the window that I considered to be outer space where it was safe, and the side windows as the paths they had to take to get home. When I was young this little game would entertain me on long car rides. I was never fond of the windshield wipers. The way the black arms would come to push away all the escaping water, cutting off the paths of the little droplets and flinging some away while shoving the rest back into the bottom of the window. As a child, it made me frustrated that it would always ruin the departure of the make–believe escape pods. I hated the sound the wipers would occasionally make when the window was too dry to give it a slick path to slide over. It was also ugly and reminded me of some sort of weird arm that was devoid of muscle or flesh, much like a skeleton which was fitting. The windshield wiper represented death and failure of the hopeful, little traveling droplets; Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. On The Rainy River Essay Soldiers that come back from war, tend to suffer from what they have gone through. Tim O'Brien, a soldier in the Vietnam war, wrote a best selling collection of short stories titled The Things They Carried. He, along with other soldier tend to experience how delicate the human heart can be. A heart is a very delicate sensitive part of the body and can really affect soldiers in any way shape or form when it comes to a war. Even before Tim O'Brien stepped onto the battlefield, the war had already damaged his heart. In the short story "On the Rainy River" Tim O'Brien opened up a letter that would change his mind forever: "I remember opening up the letter, scanning the first few lines, feeling the blood go thick behind my eyes. I remember a...show more content... He cares about what people think too much. Even though he personally didn't want to fight, he felt the need to so that he didn't disappoint, nor embarrass his family and friends. These feelings he had really messed with his head at especially with his heart. He has passion in fighting for his country and will risk his own life to protect this land, but it's also hurting him inside. This is toxic for any soldier that is about to enter the war. The heart and the feelings that come along with it can truly mess with soldiers minds. Mentally soldiers have to deal with brutal things that the war throws at them causing their hearts to suffer. In the short story, "The Things They Carried", Jimmy Cross, a soldier, had a preoccupied heart for his love interest at home, which helped his heart in the war until it was used as a weapon: "He hated himself. He had loved Martha more than his men, and as a consequence Lavender was now dead, and this was something he would have to carry like a stone in his stomach for the rest of the war" (16). Cross is convinced that his feelings for a Martha contributed to Lavender's death. Because his feelings were so strong, he wasn't as focused as he should've been, which costed him a buddy. This is a true eye awakening in how powerful the heart and the feelings that come along with it is. Cross could only think about Martha and yes, this distraction helped Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 13. Essay about Rain Stepping outside, I instantly notice the fresh, wet scent of earth. As I continue walking, I willingly allow the sprinkling droplets to envelop my entire body. My shoes are soon soaked; with each step I take, I feel a puddle of water move beneath my feet. The rain hurls itself violently on the dark, slippery pavement. My hair is dripping with ice–cold raindrops which plummet to the earth with every movement I make. The numbing effect of the icy downpour is finally setting in. Fierce thunder clouds sneak into the murderous sky and flashing lightning strikes begin. The rain falls faster and heavier. My feet move quickly as I run down the road. I rush into my house and proceed to stare out the window and observe the vicious storm that is only...show more content... As a person lets the cool rain wash over them, a feeling of renewal and cleanliness is created. Depression rates skyrocket during the dark and dreary seasons. This condition is known as Seasonal Affective Disorder. About 5 –percent of adults in the United States live with this condition. The loss of sunlight and increase of poor weather – snow, rain, wind– contribute to the severity of the disorder. During the fall and winter months, it often rains. This is one contributing factor to SAD. Although rain can be light and happy, it can also be extremely harsh. Thunderstorms are often present during heavy rainstorms. The electric flashes of light bring about nothing but fear; the pounding rain only intensifies the storm. It is easy to see why the mere sight of rain depresses some people. When rain is mentioned, I think of light ecstatic sprinkling. However, because of the different experiences each individual has, the opposite conclusion could be made. Rain drops strongly resemble teardrops. Because of this astounding resemblance, a connection between sad teardrops and rain is made. During a rain storm, the sky is not clear and blue; it is murky and gray. Colors have feelings associated with them. Blue is happy and bubbly while gray is sad and dull. A depressed person will take a quick look at the rain and jump back in their beds. It seems like in every good love story there is always a passionate kissing scene. Almost all energy that determines the weather and seasons is solar energy. The amount of solar energy that reaches theEarth varies due to the path of the Sun in the local sky and the length of daylight. Since the Earth is in a constant elliptical rotation around the sun, the Earth is never stagnant. In fact, there are two rotations that the Earth is in at all times. The first is a once a day rotation on its axis and the second is a once per year revolution around the Sun. With the Earth always changing location, the weather is constantly changing due to the varying of its exposure to the Sun. According to the American Meteorological Society, other factors that contribute to the change of weather include nearness to bodies of water, topographical features, and migrations of weather systems. Also, the interaction of radiation with the Earth's atmosphere is another factor. Energy can be reflected and absorbed by the Earth's atmosphere, varying the actual amount of solar energy that reaches the Earth's surface. Due to these variables, it is not uncommon for weather to fluctuate despite the location of Earth on its rotation. The solar energy that reaches Earth also affects the water cycle. This cycle in turn affects the weather by producing rain, snow, cyclones, and other weather events. The biggest factor in not only the changing of weather but also the seasons, is the Earth's axis. The reason for different seasons is attributed to the Earth's axis. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. The impact of rainfall on rain–fed crop production can be related to its total seasonal amount or its intra–seasonal distribution. In the extreme case of droughts, with very low total seasonal amounts, crop production suffers the most. But more subtle intra–seasonal variations in rainfall distribution during crop growing periods, without a change in the total seasonal amount, can also cause substantial reductions in yields. This means that the number of rainy days during the growing period is as important, if not more, as that of the seasonal total. Generally, the effect of rainfall variability on crop production varies with types of crops cultivated, types and properties of soils and climatic conditions of a given area. Moreover, studies indicated that uncertainties due to rainfall variability and the subsequent potential risk of crop failure influence the decision of smallholder by making them not willing to invest on improved seeds and fertilizer to avert the financial risks and hence harvest low output (RockstrГ¶ma et al., 2002). The severity of the impact (bio–physical impact) of rainfall variability on crop yield of a given area depends on the types of crops grown and the growth stage the crops (Brouwer et al., 1989) mainly due to differences in sensitivity of type and growing stage of crops. 2.4.1Growth stage of crops sensitive to impacts of moisture stress The total growing season of an annual crop can be divided into four growth stages (FAO, 1986): the initial Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 17. A Rainy Day And The Temperatures The Path 1.Today is a rainy day and the temperature has been in the low forties all day. The environment has shaped my behavior immensely today. I tend to be extremely productive on rainy days. I love the rain and it puts me in a mellow happy mood and when I'm in those moods I tend to do things to improve my day of life like cleaning and doing homework. "Tweaking the environment is about making the right behaviors a little bit easier and the wrong behavior a little bit harder." I am actually writing a majority of this paper today, which happens to be black Friday. Usually on black Friday my parents make my brother and I leave the house. My mom and dad go shopping early in the morning and wrap a lot of the presents later in the day. Since it was raining and I was kicked out of the house for the greater good, I figured I would trap myself in Starbucks and crank out as much work as I could. Having the change of setting and mood of the environment around me I was able to stay more focused than I would have if I were trying to do work on my kitchen table. I am a person who gets easily distracted so shaping the environment to make change easier for me would consist of trial and error for what works. Trying new things and recording their outcome, then sticking to what works best it a great was to shape the environment and behavior. An Amazon 1–click–style tweak I can create for myself to make my goal easier would be to get a time every week where I go to a quiet place, whether it Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. On The Rainy River Chapter Analysis In a later discussion, O'Brien said the chapter "On The Rainy River" is not a true story. The chapter is a fictionalized account of what would've happened if he ran away to avoid the draft like he wanted to. This same strategy was applied when he wrote "The Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong". While O'Brien was in Vietnam, Someone likely joked about how easy it would be to bring a girl to their base. He takes the concept and makes uses it as a vehicle to discuss innocence. We are even told in the beginning to the chapter that the story comes from Rat Kiley who has a history of exaggeration and spicing up stories (Citation Needed for Paraphrase) While the entire book is about how the war impacts various soldiers, using a female character...show more content... One prominent example of this is comparing how both Tim and Mary Anne say the war makes them feel. When he is in the hospital, Tim says he "missed the adventure....of real war out in the boonies" (183). Contrasted with Mary Anne who loves how war makes her feel. She says"you can't feel like that anywhere else" (106). The way war makes someone feel is the common strand between these two parts of the book. Tim's experience and the way war made him feel is again repeated through Mary Anne's character. Another time when a soldier's experience is projected onto Mary Anne is comparing how Mary Anne started to become quieter along with some of Rat Kiley's experiences towards the end of his tenure in Vietnam. After Mary Anne had been involved with the war for a few weeks, "she fell into a restless gloom" (O'Brien 100). Along with the change in emotional state, she began to physically isolate herself (O'Brien 100). This part of Mary Anne's transformation is a projection of what happened to Rat Kiley later in the book. The entire chapter of "Night Life" discusses how the war changed the once bright and zany Rat Kiley into someone barely able to function. As his physical and mental condition began to be impacted by the trauma he has seen, he "[sank] inside inside himself" (O'Brien 209). He "wouldn't say a word" (O'Brien 209). The silence overcame Rat Kiley is an experience projected Get more content on HelpWriting.net
