2. What was the Audience
Feedback of My Short Film
• Sticks to Conventions well
• Can pass, visually, as a professional short film
• Narrative too boring, shots not varied enough
• Can’t follow plot
What to learn from this:
• During planning stages, check with target audience the
script in order to not fall into the issue of a stale plot by
the end of production
• Make sure that I vary the shots more, don’t always use
mid-shots, try to us the multi-camera set up to change
from mid-shot, to close-up, to long-shot etc.
3. How I Gathered Audience
Feedback of My Short Film
I gathered the audience feedback through two distinct methods. 1) If they
wanted anonymity, they could view the short and then provide back some
written feedback or 2) They, as a group, viewed the piece while recording
their reaction and finishing with a final comments or questions section
afterwards. Given my target audience, I mainly sourced from there.
However, I did you the feedback from one or two who acted in it, so their
opinions might have been biased. Also, I didn’t source any feedback from
anyone older than 20. Therefore, in terms of range, there could be some
limitations here. This might have brought back some different and more
varied results. On the other hand, I did make sure I didn’t source from just
friend groups and more peers. Hopefully this means that I have obtained
feedback that is honest. Given the reaction to the narrative, it would appear
that I have. This does show some limitation in ICT, it just meant some more
editing but otherwise copying out the words written by others.
In the end, I did get some varied feedback, but I could have done more to
source it from outside my peers and present it in a different way.
4. Audience Feedback of My
Ancillary Products
• Doesn’t make the film look to appealing
• Looks professional
• Bad picture choices
• Choice of magazine: few had heard of it
• Too bland
What I have learnt:
• Make sure that you don’t leave it to the last minute to get feedback
so you can alter it and recheck it
• Try out various pictures with target audience before placing them in
• Give a selection of magazines to the target audience and let them
pick where they would want to see it in
5. How I Gathered Audience Feedback
of My Ancillary Products
This is perhaps the weaker part of my audience feedback. Unlike with the
short film, I did not record any of the reactions and so in terms of ICT skills, it
was limited. Given that I had to use written text they provided, I used word
to create it like it did with my research tasks. (Textboxes to analyse).
In terms of who I sourced it from, there were some limitations here as well. I
did source outside my peer group with this, however the majority did come
from there. Also I might not have been given the best feedback as those that
were older than my peers tended to come from inside my family.
Therefore, it could have been a lot better, and on par with the work to source
for the short film. I think I should have put more effort into this side of the
feedback, being the part I did last and without as much attention. This meant
that I didn’t have as much time to alter them and re-evaluate them against
my target audience.
6. Conclusion
What Have You Learned From Your Audience Feedback?
I have learnt from my audience feedback that I should have checked with them
the alterations and the decisions I was making as I was doing them. Therefore, to
perfect the product. If I had not left it to the last moment with sourcing the
feedback, it might have improved my work greatly. This is perhaps the biggest
improvement that could have been made.
