EX – COMBINATION OF AIR TURBINE , HYDRO ELECTRIC MOTOR AND
LINEAR GENERATOR IS THE PTO SYSTEM FOR LIMPAT PLANT.
FLOATING BUOY
THE MECHANISM OR MACHINERY WHICH CONVERTS THE WAVE
INTO ELECTRICITY , ITS CALLED PTO SYSTEM.
PTO SYSTEM -
LIMPET
FLOATING BUOY MECHANISM
THE SHAFT IS EITHER MOORED TO THE SEABED , WHILE THE BUOY CAN MOVE
UP AND DOWN ALONG THE SHAFT UNDER EXCITATION.
ENERGY EXTRACTED THROUGH THE RELATIVE MOTION BETWEEN THE
VERTICAL SHAFT AND FLOATING BUOY.
 THE BUOY OSCILLATES UNDER THE WAVE EXCITATION, AND THE
BIDIRECTIONAL MOTION OF THE BUOY IS CONVERTED INTO UNIDIRECTIONAL
ROTATION OF THE GENERATOR THROUGH MMR .
THE HARVESTED ENERGY CAN BE STORED IN BATTERY OR TRANSFERRED TO
GRID. A FLY WHEEL CAN BE READILY INTEGRATED INTO THIS SYSTEM AS WELL ,
SINCE THE GENERATOR ROTATES IN ONE DIRECTION.

THE ESSENTIAL PART OF THIS CONCEPT CONSIST OF A FLOATING BUOY, A
MOORED SHAFT AND POWER TAKEOFF ( PTO) SYSTEM INSIDE THE BUOY.

FUNCTION OF BEARING IN MMR
COMPONENTS ARE TWO RACKS , TWO PINIONS, TWO ONE WAY BEARINGS
AND OUTPUT SHAFT.
TWO PINIONS GEARS ARE MOUNTED ON THE OUTPUT SHAFT USING TWO
ONE WAY BEARING, EACH OF ALLOWS THE MOTION TRANSMISSION FROM
ONE DIRECTIONAL ONLY .

A 65 KW OCEAN THERMAL ENERGY CONVERSION PLANT IN LAKSHADWEEP.
CONCLUSION
THIS PPT IS ABOUT PRELIMINARY STUDY OF SINGLE BUOY WAVE ENERGY
CONVERTER WITH MECHANICAL MOTION RECTIFIER BASED ON POWER
TAKEOFF SYSTEM.
THE PROTOTYPE WITH 1.2 m BUOY WAS DESIGNED AND FABRICATED BASED ON
THIS CONCEPT.
 A STUDY OF SINGLE BUOY SYSTEM SHOWED THAT THE MMR BASED PTO
SYSTEM CAN EXTRACTED MORE POWER THAN LINEAR PTO SYSTEM.
IT CAPTURED 205 W POWER IN THE OCEAN TESTING.

  • 15. POWER TAKE OFF SYSTEM EX – COMBINATION OF AIR TURBINE , HYDRO ELECTRIC MOTOR AND LINEAR GENERATOR IS THE PTO SYSTEM FOR LIMPAT PLANT. FLOATING BUOY THE MECHANISM OR MACHINERY WHICH CONVERTS THE WAVE INTO ELECTRICITY , ITS CALLED PTO SYSTEM. PTO SYSTEM - LIMPET

FLOATING BUOY MECHANISM THE SHAFT IS EITHER MOORED TO THE SEABED , WHILE THE BUOY CAN MOVE UP AND DOWN ALONG THE SHAFT UNDER EXCITATION. ENERGY EXTRACTED THROUGH THE RELATIVE MOTION BETWEEN THE VERTICAL SHAFT AND FLOATING BUOY.  THE BUOY OSCILLATES UNDER THE WAVE EXCITATION, AND THE BIDIRECTIONAL MOTION OF THE BUOY IS CONVERTED INTO UNIDIRECTIONAL ROTATION OF THE GENERATOR THROUGH MMR . THE HARVESTED ENERGY CAN BE STORED IN BATTERY OR TRANSFERRED TO GRID. A FLY WHEEL CAN BE READILY INTEGRATED INTO THIS SYSTEM AS WELL , SINCE THE GENERATOR ROTATES IN ONE DIRECTION.

CONCLUSION THIS PPT IS ABOUT PRELIMINARY STUDY OF SINGLE BUOY WAVE ENERGY CONVERTER WITH MECHANICAL MOTION RECTIFIER BASED ON POWER TAKEOFF SYSTEM. THE PROTOTYPE WITH 1.2 m BUOY WAS DESIGNED AND FABRICATED BASED ON THIS CONCEPT.  A STUDY OF SINGLE BUOY SYSTEM SHOWED THAT THE MMR BASED PTO SYSTEM CAN EXTRACTED MORE POWER THAN LINEAR PTO SYSTEM. IT CAPTURED 205 W POWER IN THE OCEAN TESTING.
