1. Information on Volcanoes – How do
they benefit Mankind?
- The slopes of volcanoes and the surrounding
regions are covered with rich, volcanic soil.
- the entire Hawaiian chain of islands was created
by the constant eruptions of a single volcanic hot
spot.
- precious gems and building materials that can
only come from volcanoes.
2. Information on Volcanoes – How do
they benefit Mankind?
● Regions of volcanic activity are enormous
sources of geothermal energy.
● volcanic materials are also used in the
construction industry and as abrasive and
cleaning agents.
● volcanic eruptions also actually release some
healthy gases such as hydrogen and carbon
dioxide. Carbon dioxide is useful for the plants
in generating the process of photosynthesis.
3. Information on Volcanoes – How do
they benefit Mankind?
● Volcanoes attract millions of visitors every year,
for different reasons. Around the volcano may
be warm bathing lakes, hot springs, bubbling
mud pools and steam vents. Tourism creates
jobs in shops, restaurants, hotels and tourist
centers / national parks.
4. Effects on man
● 1. Ash
● Mount St. Helens eruption (1980 ) caused a
heavy ash fall, crushing buildings and covering
fields, electronics, and machinery. Wind carried
it 22,000 square miles from the volcano .
● 2. Volcanic Gases
● Most of these gases is water vapor which combines with carbon
dioxide, sulfur dioxide, hydrogen sulfide, hydrogen, and fluorine to
produce harmful gases which can affect human health
5. Effects on man
● 3. Landslides - Landslides are also very
common with volcanoes due to the shaking
during the eruption. Massive landslides result in
a complete burial of surrounding villages, towns
etc
4. Lahars (Mudflows)
● The mudflow is like wet wet concrete which
buries and destoys homes etc.
6. Effects on Climate.
● Volcanoes can aid nature in ways some don't
understand, but yet volcanoes can be the
catalyst for the destruction of life. With the
addition of other calamities, volcanoes have /
and can destroy everything on Earth.
● With the eruption of yellow stone, ash will be
thrown into the atmosphere, blocking the sun
and suffocating millions, including animals.
7. Effects on Climate.
● When the sun is blocked out by the massive
amounts of ash, plants do not receive nutrients.
Animals that depend on plantlife for food, such
as cows, will die off in the masses.
● When an animal that is needed in the web of
life dies off, other animals die with it. This can
be devastating for not only climates, but the
entire biosphere.
