1. 2.How effective is the combination
of your main product and ancillary
texts?
2. • After completing this project, is clear to see that
with my ancillary tasks, this project would have not
been as successful, I am able to see this through the
documentation on my blog.
3. • At the beginning of the project, I struggled with picking a genre
and a song for my music video. After picking the song featured in
Damages’ title sequence I followed other music videos associated
with a similar genre; Nothing to Lose. This then made it easier to
construct a narrative for my final product. Looking into the genre, I
realized I needed a strong narrative for the audience to follow as
that is typical to it’s genre conventions. While some audience’s
may have different readings to the preferred reading (Stuart Hall),
due to the polysemic nature of the video, the audience are open
to interpret their own opinion of the video (Hebdidge), similar to
Street Spirit by Radiohead’s video.
4. • I don’t think that my digipak and poster were as successful as my music
video. I struggled with deciding who my artist was and the genre, which
can be seen in my digipak and poster drafts. I took inspiration from the
Distorture digipak, I thought that it was really simple and consistent
throughout. I applied this to my own digipak by using black and white
imagery throughout, which also adhered to the genre conventions. By
using the same panel of a panel in my digipak for the image on my
poster, it makes the two feel consistent and on a professional level.
