Evaluation question 2 for our A2 media studies.

1. 2. How effective is the combination
of your main product and ancillary
texts? ​

2. In the combination of our product and ancillary text it is
very effective, with the use of house style throughout
the two ancillary products (website and digipak). On
the webpage the background is just a simple black
image.
In the process of creating our ancillary texts we
researched other web pages and digipak’s, in creating
these we didn’t use any ideas from other media
sites, just used them to find out the standard template
for a well-known artist/singer to see if they use the
same idea on their websites.

3. Process and Common themes
As our video is Indie my group and I were varying
different artists and songs for our research. One of
the main artists we used was Drake, as the song
we used for our video is drake the group thought it
would be necessary if Drake was used for our
research.
Throughout the process of research we found out
common themes, stereotypically in Hip-Hop videos
there is alcohol (preferably expensive alcohol). Also
expensive products are shown for example Rolex
watches, expensive clothing brands and luxury
cars. One of the reasons why they use this is to
show their wealth.

4. Process and Common themes
Our video goes against the common theme of a Hip-Hop
and Indie video, the group and I decided to use a acoustic
version of ‘Drake’s -Started from the bottom’. The reason
why we used an acoustic version is that the slow pace of
the song links in with the story of the music video as it is
depressing and gloomy.
Throughout the process we have learn a lot from the
common themes, with these my group got a basic outline of
these. If every genre didn’t have a theme then all music
videos would just be however they like, the common theme
gives the artists an outline of what the viewers will be
expecting in their video.

5. Distinguishing features
There are a couple of distinguishing features based
in our three products.
The first distinguishing feature is the main character
(antagonist), he features in both the Digipak and
the music video. He is important and has to feature
on the Digipak as he is the main character.
The second feature is the attire in which the
antagonist wears, in the Digipak and the music
video he wears a black sweatshirt/jacket.

6. Distinguishing features
The last feature is the Hollow House logo, this
features in all three of our products. This is very
important as it shows the audience our company.
We used these distinguishing features to represent
our company, with the use of distinguishing features
the audience will be able to point out that this is a
Hollow House Production straight away.
