3. Why Athene
Less Complexity
Capture and store data from the
entire infrastructure; automate
reporting and alerting; no detailed
system expertise required
Clearer Capacity Information
Identify existing and potential
capacity and performance threats;
prepares and visualizes key data for
time-to-live and bottleneck analysis
Healthier IT Operations
Near real-time alerts identify
problems in all key environments
View latency, transactions per
second, exceptions, etc.
Effective Incident Resolution
Management
Near real-time views to identify real or
potential failures earlier; view detailed
data to support triage repair or
prevention

6. Near ‘real-time’ support
Data Capture, Collection and Management
from Windows, UNIX, Linux, z/OS and z/VM
systems
• Capture and Collection Profiles -updated
to set a 1-minute interval
• Data Management - updated to handle 1-
minute interval data

7. SMT2 metrics
• Capacity factors and thread density metrics for CP, zAAP and zIIP
• OS-level zAAP and zIIP usage now stored as CP-equivalent values, plus new
metrics to show “raw” values. Partition metrics are always “raw”.
WebSphere metrics SMF type 120 Records
• Memory/heap information (subtype 3)
• J2EE activity (subtype 6)
• Web application activity (subtype 8)
MQ Metrics SMF type 115 Records
• Subsystem level (subtype 1)
• Buffer pools (subtypes 2 and 215)
• Coupling Facility activity (subtype 2)
• Coupling Facility dataset activity (subtype 2)

8. zAAP and zIIP Normalization
• In previous versions of Acquire for z/OS you could choose to have zAAP
and zIIP usage converted to CP-equivalent (or not) by use of the
ZNORM= parameter.
• From Athene 11.10, we have now enforced ZNORM=Y. P
• Previous Athene versions did not distinguish whether CPU was
normalized or not. Upgrading your Athene database will now convert
all stored zAAP and zIIP metrics to their ‘normalized’ value.
• To report on un-normalized metrics, the form <metric name [R] units>
are provided.
• i.e. Charged zIIP Time [R] secs – the [R] denotes the “reported” value.
• You may have to manually adjust your reporting after upgrading to
show the [R] metrics if that is what you were doing. There is no
automatic way to do this.
