A definite geographic area is not an essential aspect of
society.
A Community always denoted a definite locality or
geographic area.
Society is a broader concept and abstract in nature. Community is narrower concept and concrete in nature.
Society refers to a system (or web) of social relationships

Community refers to a group of people who live in a definite
locality.
Society is based on both similarities as well as
differences.
Community is based on only similarities among its members.
A society may or may not have community sentiment. Without a community sentiment a community can’t be
constituted.
A society is more concerned with organization A community is concerned with life from which organization

The objectives and interests of society are more
extensive and varied.
The objectives and interests of a community are
comparatively less extensive and varied.

relationships that exists among these individuals.
A society is intangible, it is a process rather than a
thing.
Society has no definite locality or boundary
because it refers to a system of social
relationships. Hence it is universal or pervasive.

Community is a people living within a

dependence. It exists within the society.
It is bound by the territorial units. It is a
specific group while society is abstract.
Community living is natural to man.
