7. *QUALIFICATIONS
A Prime Minister must:
be a citizen of India .
be a member of the Lok- sabha or the Rajya- sabha. If the person chosen as
Prime Minister is neither a member of the Lok- Sabha nor the Rajya- Sabha at
the time of selection, they must become a member of either of the houses within
six months.
be above 25 years of age if they are a member of Lok- sabha, or, above 30 years
of age if they are a member of Rajya- sabha .
not hold any office of profit under the government of India or the government
of any state or under any local or other authority subject to the control of any of
the state governments.
8. FUNCTIONS OF PRIME
MINISTER
O Forms the cabinet.
O Size of the ministry is determined.
O The cabinet is being reorganized.
O The prime minister is the leader of Lok Sabha and
the chairman of the cabinet.
O PM is the chairman of Nity Aayog.
O Determines the policies of the government.
O Advises the president to dissolve the Lok Sabha.
O Formulating domestic and foreign policies.
O PM acts as a link between cabinet and the
President.
9. OATHS OF OFFICE AND SECRECY
The prime minister is required to make and
subscribe in the presence of the president of India
before entering office.
The oath of office and secrecy, as per the third
schedule of the constitution of India.
10. CONCLUSION
O The prime minister has a special status both in
the government and in the parliament. This
makes his/her the most powerful functionary.
O His/her position and powers depend upon
his/her personality.
