HEAVEN - EMELI SANDE (SHOT 1)
Analysis Shot 1
 This shot is a close up shot to express who they trying to show.
 He is positioned in the middle frame to show that he is the main person of the frame.
 Mise En Scene – High Key Lightning in this shot. The location shows the culture of her background,
for example the local chicken and chips shops in the background, also the man in the frame
holding the blue bag which usually symbolises a local corner shop. The ma in the frames body
language is almost like he’s giving himself up to God which also relates to cross necklace.
 The shot that lead to a different scene or frame from this shot was a cut editing which is the most
common and simple editing technique.
 The Lyrics have a slight correlation to the video and in this shot there is a relation to the video as
the man is seeming to be looking up to the sky indicating that he is looking up to heaven and also
he is wearing a Jesus piece necklace. This is called Illustration.
HEAVEN - EMELI SANDE (SHOT 2)
Analysis Shot 2
 This is a close up shot coming from the dark side of the room.
 She is positioned in the middle of the frame. Showing the main person/ the eye
catcher of the frame.
 Mise En Scene - There is low key lighting transitioning to high key lighting in this
frame suggesting she is in the dark but looking into the light ‘Heaven’. Also the
background also looks like a run-down area express more of her culture and
background.
 The editing technique is also the cut. This cut makes us pay attention to things
that may relate to previous and next cut.
HEAVEN - EMELI SANDE (SHOT 3)
Analysis Shot 3
 This is a mid shot meaning there is more than one thing to be shown in the frame like the Angel
wings, the girl, graffiti etc.
 Mise En Scene – There is still cultural representation in this shot, showing that where she is from it
may not look nice but heaven is still the goal.
 The girl is in the Rule of third meaning she is positioned in the third of the shot showing that there
something more important to be expressed. In this case it’s the Angel wings which have a strong
relation to lyrics as Angel are known to be in heaven. It covers about 60% of the frame and is very
visible.
 This is clear representation of illustration, This shot has a clear relation to the lyrics.
 The colour red indicates danger is this colour is seen throughout the whole video, therefore in this
shot within all the danger the girl in red is in there is still an angel and that’s what Emeli Sande is
trying to show in her environment of where she came from
Emeli Sande’s Representation
 Street Life - Emeli Sande came back to her neighbour hood to teach and try get
people to follow the light as seen in the video and through the deeper meanings
of the lyrics. There are a lot of poverty issues in these areas and she shows a lot of
these in her video like run downs backgrounds, filled with graffiti. This video only
shows the working class people to express her culture and how hard their life is.
