bringsout a gun andputs it againsthishead. Ashe doesthis,we can see he is shakingwhich
emphasisesthathe isnervousandmayhave secondthoughtsonkillinghimself. Thistherefore links
to the genre whichisa thrillerasthe shakingof the protagonistaddstensionwhichis commonin
thrillers. Next,we see agirl walkingdownthe roadinfrontof the car whichconveysthe ideaof
happinessasthe manpulledthe gunawayfrom hisface. Additionally,thisisaccentuatedbythe
weatherandhighkeylighting inthe scene asitis brightand sunnywhichhasconnotationsof
happiness.However,whenthe white van comesand kidnaps the girl,the low keylightingisused to
representamore darkerand sinisteratmosphere.
Camera
Several differentcamerashotsare usedinthe film tocreate differenteffects.Moreover,the film
starts withthe camera at the back of the car looking forward.Itthenswitchesthe close-upof the
guy to showshisexpressionsmore clearlytothe audience.Thistherefore helpsshowsthe audience
howthe characters are feelingandif theyare representedpositivelyornegativelyasthenthe
audience canrelate themselvestothe charactermore andunderstandthe character more.
Additionally,anestablishing-shotisusedlaterontosetthe scene. Thistherefore letsthe audience
knowwhere the characteris and whathissurroundingsare.Inthisparticularscene,we see ahouse
withthe white vanthat tookthe girl parkedthere.Furthermore,this tellsusthatthe girl must be in
thishouse.
2. Editing
The filmusesquicktransitionstomake the scenesflow betterandseemmore realisticsothe
audience ismore attracted. Furthermore,the transitionsmostlyswitchtoadifferentview of the
protagonistwhere itusesthe transitiontomake the audience presume whathashappened.For
example,atthe startwe can see the back of the protagonistandthenwe switchto a close-upwhere
we see he has pulledagunwhichwe presume wasfromhispocketor in hishandas we didn’tsee
where itcame from.
Sound
There is little soundinthisshortfilmwithamix of diegeticandnon-diegeticmusic.The protagonist
doesnotactuallyhave any dialogue whichmakesthe audience lookintohow he isfeelingrather
thenwhathe issaying.The score gets more tense asthe filmprogresses.Asthe mangetsintothe
house,the score getsto it’speakand we thensee the girl lookingatthe man inthe house andthen
the score dropsleavingusat a cliff hangeraswe don’t know if theywill make itoutor whythe girl
was kidnapped.
