Personal
I have most recently been employed by SSI, and I am actively seeking new
employment. In my career I have worked in many challenging situations, meeting
deadlines and keeping up quality levels. I have worked in the customer service
industry, the automotive industry and the steel industry. I am used to working as part
of a team, however as part of my current job I also work long periods on my own. I
have extensive experience of lean manufacturing techniques, both from SSI and my
previous job at Nissan. At Nissan I also used 6 sigma techniques on a regular basis. In
all my previous jobs I have worked different shift patterns and rotas, including nights
and weekend working.
As a family man I am looking for a job at a company which I can build my
future at, and hopefully progress. I have a good punctuality and attendance record in
all of my previous jobs, and am always willing to work overtime. I have recently
gained my CCNSG safety passport and CSCS card, and have my Counterbalance and
Reach forklift licences.
Employment History
Nov 2011 – Oct 2015: Sahaviriya Steel Industries (United Kingdom)
Process Operator
I was most recently employed by SSI UK, working on the Desulphurisation
department on the BOS plant. I was Deputy Team Leader on my shift. My main
duties included organising the locomotives and torpedoes, pouring iron safely to the
correct levels in the ladles, sampling and treating the iron, monitoring treatment
levels, alarm logs, valve pressures and injection rates, and skimming the impurities
off the surface.
To pour liquid metal safely I had to liaise with the loco drivers, the desulph
supervisor and the vessel controller to get the torpedoes placed and correctly
connected, and to decide the correct pour weight. I was also responsible for checking
the cranes are corrected engaged to the ladle when putting them into and taking them
out of the pouring station.
At the treating station I was responsible for entering the relevant details for
each ladles treatment into the plc computer system, checking what qualities the iron
needs to treated to and inputting and downloading the relevant information. In my job
I had to take and analyse QC samples to see what quantities of each material needs to
be added to make the right quality of steel. I had to check all the systems are running
correctly to inject the materials, and monitor to make sure any alarms or unexpected
faults are dealt with.
After treating ladles I was responsible for the removal of the impurities from
the surface of the iron using a mechanical skimmer arm, being careful not to lose any
iron from the ladle in the process.
2. Each shift I was responsible for checking various valves and systems, and
levels of materials (pre-shift). Another duty was also being responsible for keeping a
clean, safe environmentally friendly area by following prescribed operational
procedures and work instructions.
A key part of my job was ensuring the iron is treated and ready to go to the
vessels in time to be charged, and that it is the right sulphur quality which is needed.
In my role I regularly had to operate pendant cranes, preform slinging
operations and drive forklift trucks, which I am fully licensed to do.
Nov 2004 – Nov 2011: Nissan Motor Manufacturing UK
Production Operative
At Nissan I was responsible for fitting and checking various automotive parts
to cars on a fast-paced physically and mentally challenging production line. In this job
I had to read and understand various different build sheets, follow procedures
correctly and fit the relevant parts within an allotted time (usually about 1 minute per
vehicle), in the correct order. As well as ensuring my parts were fitted correctly, I had
to visually and physically check other parts fitted to ensure they are fitted correctly
and securely.
Another part of my duties here was to participate in continuous improvement
programs, such as helping to check and re-design the build order, and deciding where
various parts were stored.
Sept 2001 – Nov 2004: Asda
At ASDA I was responsible for replenishing stock and providing good
customer service. I had to do stock-takes every 3 months, checking what the
warehouse held against what the database said it did. Another duty in the warehouse
was to sign for and help take deliveries from the truck drivers and making sure the
load was dispatched correctly and safely.
