2. Analyze the Learner
The class I’ll be teaching is 4th graders from the ages of
9-10 years old with the class size of 24 with 11 boys and
13 girls.
22 Caucasian, and 2 African American
Learning styles: visual and auditory
3. Main Objective
Upon completion of the unit, students will identify key points
that contributed to the creation, hardships, and growth of West
Virginia from the 18th century to modern day as well as
identifying major tourism hot spots in the state and how that
contributes to economy with 100% accuracy through
PowerPoint presentations, creating posters, using Internet
resources, and watching video footage.
4. Day by Day Breakdown
Day One: Introduction to West Virginia History; view blog on
the beginning of our history.
Day Two: Discuss how West Virginia becomes the 35th state.
Focus on the Civil War.
Day Three: Study WV geography.
Day Four: Today’s West Virginia: discuss changing economic
atmosphere and job opportunities for our citizens. Focus on
Tourism.
Day Five: Students will create a poster using Photoshop that
represents key places in WV. I will provide a teacher example.
