“Good ideas” have more than doubled global human life expectancy
(HLE) since 1900, saving millions of lives
§ Vaccination:
– In 1857 Charles Dickens wrote, “Few thoughts have given more material benefit to man
than that which arose in Dr. Jenner’s mind, when it occurred to him that by putting
intention in the place of accident, the benefit of exemption from small-pox might be
extended.”
§ Pasteurization:
– We can kill germs in our milk that kill us
§ Antibiotics
– We can kill specific germs that kill us
§ Public Health
– By studying diseases, we can minimize their emergence and transmission
§ See our video on this topic for more:
4. 4
AI will undoubtedly accelerate the pace of these “good ideas” saving and
extending many more lives
§ Ideas are the ”Infinite Resource”
– Ramez Naam
§ Data & information are expanding at an exponential pace.
§ Many good ideas will help us live longer in the future
– Aging is itself a disease, which can be cured
– We can and should hold our governments accountable for increasing the life expectancies
of the citizens they serve
– We can cut our carbon emissions and create more circular economies
– Many, many more…
§ AI will be instrumental in generating these “good ideas” and solving the many issues necessary
to implement them
5. 5
At Human Life Expectancy, Inc., our goal is to help as many people as
possible to live as long as possible as soon as possible
6. 6

AI and Machine Learning (ML) are essential to genetic and epigenetic
testing
§ The human genome consists of over 3.2 billion base pairs
– Adenine
– Thymine
– Cytosine
– Guanine
§ The process of sequencing the genome could never have been achieved without AI
§ AI is necessary to figure out which parts of the genome control which parts of our physiology
§ AI is necessary to discern which epigenetic markers correspond with which diseases, behaviors
etc.

Epigenetic tests reveal your “biological age” and other important factors
§ Epigenetic tests reveal your “biological age”, which can be higher or lower than your actual
(chronological) age
§ By testing for biological age after different interventions, for the first time it is now possible to
identify which interventions have the greatest impact on longevity for different groups of
people
10. 10
Massive amounts of data and AI / Machine Learning are necessary to
assess which interventions work best for which people
§ We need to try many different interventions and use AI/ML to find which do the best job of
slowing or reversing biological age for different groups of people
– Age
– Sex
– Smoking Status
– BMI
– Existing conditions
– Etc.
§ AI / ML algorithms are necessary to discover which interventions work best
We believe this will be a major focus of healthcare
in the next decade
11. 11
Numerous peer reviewed studies show that it is possible to “bend the
mortality curve” by using epigenetic tests to track biological age
§ 43 healthy adult males, ages of 50-72,
treatment and control group
§ 8-week intervention program:
– diet,
– sleep,
– exercise
– relaxation guidance, and
– supplements
§ 3.23 years decrease in biological age,
measured by epigenetic test (DNAmAge)
Source: Fitzgerald, et. al., "Potential reversal of epigenetic age using a diet and
lifestyle intervention: a pilot randomized clinical trial“, Aging, April 2021
12. 12
Epigenetic tests also reveal an increasing number of non-communicable
diseases and the behaviors that can cause them
§ Non-communicable diseases
– Types
• Heart Disease
• Cancer
• Diabetes
• Etc.
– Because many of these diseases can be controlled by behaviors, early predictions /
diagnoses will save many thousands of lives
§ Behaviors
– Types
• Smoking
• Alcohol consumption
• Exercise
• Diet
• Etc.
– Because these behaviors drive major non-communicable diseases, epigenetic tests that
provide transparency on these behaviors could save many thousands of lives
13. 13
The economics of helping people to be more health are extremely
attractive
§ By catching diseases early and adopting optimal behaviors and
interventions, insurance customers improve their health, resulting in
reduced claims.
§ For an average $150,000 Life Insurance policy, the present value of
postponing death by just 3 years and receiving 3 more years of
premiums is over $40,000.
§ This can also help insurance companies to free up significant capital
reserves.
§ The cost of the materials to conduct the test at high volumes
is currently less than $200 and is falling rapidly.
14. 14
Insurers now have the opportunity to participate in this transformation
§ Epigenetic tests already have positive protective value
– Their economic benefits are at least 6x their costs in the first year
§ The quality and number of epigenetic predictors will grow rapidly
§ The costs of epigenetic tests is falling exponentially
§ Those companies that lead this transformation will “win”
– Effectively reposition themselves as “health partners”
– Reduced claims
– Enhanced profitability
– Competitors suffer adverse selection
This makes it inevitable that epigenetic tests will
become an integral part of health and life insurance
15. 15
This creates the opportunity for a “grand partnership” between
insurance companies and epigenetic science to benefit humanity
Helps insurers better
understand health risks and
help their customers to live
longer
Grand
Partnership
Have the volume of tests
required to refine predictors
and explore which
interventions have the
largest impacts on health
Insurers
Epigenetic Science
§ Faster, greater knowledge
of which interventions
work best for which
people
§ Better Health
§ Enhanced Longevity
Benefits to Humanity
The “Grand Partnership” between Epigenetic Science and Insurers
16. 16
See our video on genetic and epigenetic testing for more details
See the “Human Life Expectancy Channel” on YouTube for this, and many other videos
focused on how new technologies will increase human life expectancy.
17. 17
Isn’t there a risk that AI / ML will create a “superintelligence” and that
computers will rise to enslave humanity?
§ This story makes for good fiction, but is unlikely to come true
– Read “Superintelligence” by Nick Bostrom
– We’ll have plenty of time to watch and control any such emergence
§ The overall risks from AI/ML are small compared to other risks and small compared to the lives
saved and other benefits from AI / ML
18. 18
A larger threat is the one AI poses to our jobs and economies
§ As with the cotton gin, steam engine, and countless other inventions along the way, jobs will
be impacted by AI
§ ChatGPT is currently challenging many jobs
§ Studies Confirm this Risk
– A recent report from Goldman Sachs estimates that AI could replace the equivalent of 300
million jobs in the US and Europe alone1
– A 2013 University of Oxford study found that 47% of US jobs could be eliminated by AI over
the next 20 years2
§ See our video on this topic for more

2. https://www.oxfordmartin.ox.ac.uk/downloads/academic/future-of-employment.pdf
19. 19
However, this has always been the case with new technologies, and
AI/ML will also create new jobs
§ New Jobs
– Longevity consultants
– Genetic / epigenetic testing companies
– Doctors, nurses and healthcare professionals
– Others that work with AI/ML to help people
– Teachers, coaches and others enhancing the quality of life
§ This growth and transition will have costs, but is an unstoppable part of humanity’s
“information adolescence”
20. 20
In summary, AI will almost certainly accelerate the increase global
human life expectancy
§ It will accelerate the pace of “good ideas” that have proven to be the major cause of increased
HLE in the past
§ It is an intrinsic component of genetics, epigenetics and a host of other technologies with
extraordinary promise to increase HLE
§ It will help us to live longer, less wasteful, more fulfilling lives
§ If we slow the advancement of AI / ML, we postpone these benefits at our peril
