Online Document and Sharing through Windows Live SkyDrive

Thistutorial will demonstratehowtocreate a Word, Excel,PowerPoint,and OneNote notebookin
SkyDrive,upload,and share documentswith WindowsLiveAccount.
[Introduction]
SimilartoGoogle Docs, WindowsLive SkyDrive isafree service offeredbyMicrosofttohostfilesinthe
"cloud"to all ownersof a WindowsLive ID. SkyDrive allowsusertostore,syncandshare fileswithother
people andothercomputersacrossthe web.
[AccessWindowsLive SkyDrive]
Step1: To access,simplygoto the WindowsLive SkyDrive page (https://skydrive.live.com/), andenter
your WindowsLive ID (or yourNetpassportID, Hotmail ID) followedbyyourpasswordto signin.
ď‚· If you do nothave any of these,youcancreate a WindowsLive IDfromthe same page,by
clickingonthe Sign up buttonfor a free WindowsLive ID.
ď‚· If you login withyourHotmail ID,you can alsoaccess SkyDrive byclickingon SkyDrive onthe
lefttopof yourHotmail page,as shownbelow:
AfteryousigninSkyDrive,itisready to create documents,spreadsheet,presentation,andnotebook
withinSkyDrive. In thistutorial,the basicstepsof creating Word document,Excel workbook,
PowerPointpresentation,andOneNote notebookwouldbe demonstrated.

Step2: Onthe SkyDrive page (asshown
inthe left image), choose the
a) Filestobrowse all youhave in SkyDrive,
b) Thenclickon Create,in the
Downmenu,select Worddocument
to create a newblankworddocument.
Step3:
c) In the “NewMicrosoft Worddocument”
Dialogue box,pleasetype the name you
need foryour worddocument.
d) Clickon “Create” (the blue buttonat
the right corner) to generate aword
documentto workwith. If a securitybox
pop-up,click“allow”tocontinue the work.
Step4: Inthe image below,youwouldhave all the same tabsandgroupsinMS Word program. Just
type and edityourdocumentinthe DocumentPane area.
ď‚· Whenyoufinishediting,clickonthe Save button,yourWord documentcouldbe savedin
SkyDrive.
ď‚· Use the File button inWord documenttoSave,Print,Share,
OpeninWord program,email,protectandclose yourdocument.
(The File button isdifferentfromFile menuinSkyDrive. The blue
File buttonisthe one inWord document,whichisdemonstrated
inthe rightimage.)

Step5: Please follow Step2andStep3 to create a new blankExcel workbook. Give apropername for
your excel workbook,afterclicking“Create”,youwill be broughttothe editingpage of Excel workbook
as shownbelow:
ď‚· Whenyou finishedediting,pleasefollow Step4tosave,close,or share yourworkbook.
ď‚· The File buttoninExcel workbookisingreencolor,as showninthe image above. Afteryou
close the finishedExcelworkbook,youwouldbe directedbacktothe File page in SkyDrive.
[Create PowerPointpresentation]
Step7: Please follow Step2andStep3 to create a new blankPowerPointpresentation. Give aproper
name for yourexcel workbook,
 afterclicking“Create”,youwill be broughttothe
selection of theme inPowerPointpresentation
as shown inthe right image;
 Click“Apply”toapplythe theme toyour presentation,
and thenworkwithPowerPointpresentation,asshown
inthe image below.

ď‚· The File button in PowerPointpresentationisinred/orange color,asshowninthe image above.
Afteryouclose the finishedpresentation,youwouldbe directedbacktothe File page in
SkyDrive.

Step8: Please follow Step2andStep3 to create a new blankOneNote notebook.Give apropername
for yourOneNote notebook,afterclicking“Create”,youwillbe broughttothe editingpage of OneNote
notebookasshownbelow:
ď‚· Whenyoufinishedediting,pleasefollow Step4tosave,close,or share yourpresentation.
NOTE: there isno Save buttoninOneNote notebookinSkyDrive,whichwouldbe saved
automaticallythe webapp.
ď‚· The File button in PowerPointpresentationisin purple color,asshowninthe image above.
Afteryouclose the finished OneNote,youwouldbe directedbacktothe File page inSkyDrive.

Step9: Onthe Filespage,all folders,documents,workbook,presentation,andnotebookyouhave
createdinSkyDrive wouldbe listed. Youcan manage thembychecking/multi-checkingfiles.
Aftercheckingthe file(s), there wouldbe several optionsasshowninthe image below;fromhere,you
can download,share,embed,rename,delete,andmove yourfilesinSkyDrive.

Step10: Clickon“Groups” on the
SkyDrive mainpage (asshownbelow)
to bringup yourgroups inSkyDrive.
Thenclick“Create Group” tocreate a
newgroup.
Step11: After
clicking “Create

group”,you can give a name to thisgroup,and add people tothisgroupbyinsertingtheiremail address.
Afterprovidingall those informationrequiredbycreatingagroup,clickon “Create”at the bottomto
generate anew group.
 As indicatedinthe image below,agroupnamedas “ITSA-Instructional TechnologyStudent
Association”hasbeenunder“Groups”. Filesanddocumentsinthisgroupwouldbe listedthere.
[Sync yourfilesinSkyDrive withyourPC]
Step12: By clicking“PCs”on SkyDrive page,youcansync yourfileswithPC.
 Click“Download SkyDrive for Windows”,the SkyDriveSetupprogramwouldbe automatically
downloadedfromSkyDrive toyourPC/laptop(Windows-based);afterdownloading,youcan
bothhave your filesonwebandlocal computer.
