TAGORE
Life sketch
• Tagore was born on 6th May 1861 in
Bengal.
• His father Mahirishi Davendra Nath
Tagore provided him with initial
education in Sanskrit, Philosophy and
Astronomy.
• 1877 Tagore went to England to study law
but returned without obtaining a degree.
• He was fed-up with the rigid dull education of institution and dis his
education mostly at home by self study.
• He wrote stories novels poems which developed him into a renowned
poet writer dramatist philosopher and painter.
• People addressed him as ‘Gurudev’.
• Calcutta University adored him with degree of Doctor of Literature.
• 1915 Indian Government endowed him with knighthood which he
returned after the Jalianwala Bagh massacre.
• He travelled across the world like Europe, Japan and USA.
• Established Vishwa Bharati on 22 September 1921.
• He died in 1941.

(Novels)
• Bhikarini, Kabuliwala, Kshudita (Short stories)
• Gitanjali, Sonar Tori Manasi (Poems)
TAGORE’S EDUCATIONAL
PHILOSOPHY
 The medium of instruction should be mother tongue.
During education a child should enjoy full freedom.
Child should be educated in the laps of the nature far
away from town.
Foreign education cannot be the basis of national
education.
National education should be connected with national life.
Children should be acquainted with the ideals and values of
national culture.
Indian Child should be given Indian education.
Education should develop harmoniously all the faculties of
child.
Children should be encouraged to learn from original
sources or by learning by doing.
Schools should be reformed.

Teaching while walking
Discussion and Question-Answer method

TEACHER
Tagore gave very importance to teacher. He believed
only man can teach another man.
• Believe in the purity and innocence of child.
• Provide conducive environment to child for engaging
in constructive activities.
• Should be motivating the creative capacity of child.
CONCLUSION
Tagore was influenced by the book
“Robinson Crusoe”. He wanted to develop the
natural emotions of the child in a natural
atmosphere away from the dirty and immoral
atmosphere of towns.

  • 5. • He was fed-up with the rigid dull education of institution and dis his education mostly at home by self study. • He wrote stories novels poems which developed him into a renowned poet writer dramatist philosopher and painter. • People addressed him as ‘Gurudev’. • Calcutta University adored him with degree of Doctor of Literature. • 1915 Indian Government endowed him with knighthood which he returned after the Jalianwala Bagh massacre. • He travelled across the world like Europe, Japan and USA. • Established Vishwa Bharati on 22 September 1921. • He died in 1941.

  • 7. TAGORE’S EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY  The medium of instruction should be mother tongue. During education a child should enjoy full freedom. Child should be educated in the laps of the nature far away from town. Foreign education cannot be the basis of national education.
  • 8. National education should be connected with national life. Children should be acquainted with the ideals and values of national culture. Indian Child should be given Indian education. Education should develop harmoniously all the faculties of child. Children should be encouraged to learn from original sources or by learning by doing. Schools should be reformed.

  • 11. TEACHER Tagore gave very importance to teacher. He believed only man can teach another man. • Believe in the purity and innocence of child. • Provide conducive environment to child for engaging in constructive activities. • Should be motivating the creative capacity of child.
  • 12. CONCLUSION Tagore was influenced by the book “Robinson Crusoe”. He wanted to develop the natural emotions of the child in a natural atmosphere away from the dirty and immoral atmosphere of towns.
