India successfully launched the Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM) spacecraft into orbit around Mars on September 24, 2014, making India the first nation to reach Mars on its initial attempt. The spacecraft was inserted into an elliptical orbit 515 km from Mars' surface after navigating 215 million km from Earth. Prime Minister Modi congratulated ISRO and Indians for this success despite limited resources. MOM will study the potential existence of life on Mars by examining its similarities to early Earth conditions.

It was successfully inserted into Orbit of Mars on 24th
Sept 2014 (Yesterday), making India the first country in

8. According to ISRO, the Mars spacecraft was successfully
inserted into the Martian orbit at 515 km away from the red
planet’s surface and 215 million km away from the earth in radio
distance. The challenging task of the Mars Orbit insertion began
at 4:17 AM yesterday, when the spacecraft switched over to the
medium gain antenna for emitting and receiving radio signals.

11. Possibilities of life on Mars
Mars is of particular interest for the study of the origins
of life because of its similarity to the early Earth. This is
especially so since Mars has a cold climate and lacks plate
tectonics or continental drift.
It remains an open question whether life currently
exists on Mars or has existed there in the past, and fictional
Martians have been a recurring feature of popular
entertainment of the 20th and 21st centuries.
