Amultiple-dose vial (MDV) is recognized by itโs FDA-
approved label.
Although MDVscan be used for more than onepatient
when aseptic technique is followed, ideally even
MDVsare usedfor onlyone patient.
MDVstypically contain anantimicrobial preservative
to help limit the growthof bacteria. The
preservatives have no effect on bloodborneviruses.
Discard MDVswhen the beyond-use date hasbeen
reached or any time the sterility of the vial is in
question.
