INTRODUCTION
 Lips are considered to be one of the most sensitive
organs on the human face.
 The skin of the lips is thin and extremely sensitive,
susceptible to irritation and prone to attract problems.
 Therefore it is extremely important to take proper care
of lips. Several problems may affect the lips if needful
care is not taken.
 Lip symptoms consist of lip dryness, cracking, pain,
numbness, swelling, and sores.
 If we suffer from pain in our lips, it may be described
as sharp, dull, stabbing, burning or throbbing.
How Lip Makeup Products May
Affect The Human Lips??
 Lip makeup products are primarily used due to
their colouring.
 In addition, they can have further advantages
and some disadvantages as well.
 Certain lipsticks, mainly long-wearing lipsticks,
tend to dry the lips. It is attributed to the
silicones found among the ingredients.
 These ingredients seal the color to
the lips .
 Lip plumping lipsticks containing
menthol and camphor may
also cause dryness.
 Other factors that might contribute to the
development of dry lips include nasal obstruction,
promoting mouth breathing, and dentures that
might not fit properly (commonly seen in the
elderly).
 Dry lips may also be seen in children who are
thumb suckers.
 As discussed, dryness can be prevented and/or
treated with the use of lip balms.
What Are Common Lip
Problems??
COLD SORES
Cold sores can come up because of different
reasons such as sun exposure, dietary changes,
trauma, menstruation and even our run of the
mill and everyday stresses.
Its symptoms include a sort of tingly or
prickly feeling which is followed by a feeling
of tenderness in the area and it is only then
that it will turn into a blister.
 Lip balm or even petroleum jelly can offer a bit of
relief from the chapping.
 We can also opt for a lip balm that contains an
analgesic so that it may help ease the pain.
 It will take around a week to heal up however
once we have contacted a cold sore it is possible
that we will get another one in the same area if
we’re not careful.
LIP DRYNESS
 Lip dryness can occur because of different reasons
such as the weather, an allergic reaction to our
lipstick or lip gloss, dehydration and just about
anything.
 A good moisturizing lip balm will help our lips to
heal up.
CHAPPED LIPS
 In relation to lip dryness, people get
chapped lips because of similar
reasons.
 Causes such as dehydration or the
weather (winter time, sitting in a air
conditioned room for a long time),
constant lip licking (this remove sour
lips natural moisture hence drying
out your lips) and even too much sun
exposure can make your lips chap.
 A good lip balm, preferably with
quite a bit of SPF on it could just
help your lips heal.
TYPES AND DEFINITION OF
LIP MAKEUP PRODUCTS
 There are several different types of products
available on the market that can be applied to the
lips for various reasons.
 Let us review the most common types of lip
products and their characteristics.
 The following products belong to the category of
cosmetics : lipsticks, lip glosses, and lip liners,
liquid lipsticks, lip salve ,lip balm ,
 They are applied to enhance or color the lips and
are purely for increasing beauty and
attractiveness, which meet the definition of a
cosmetic product.
 LIPSTICKS are designed to enhance
the appearance of the lips by imparting
color and gloss.
 They consist of waxes, butters, fats,
oils, and hydrocarbons, which are
usually referred to as the base, as well
as pigments for the color.
 Additionally, lipsticks can contain
flavors and fragrances as well as
specific ingredients for ultraviolet
(UV) protection and a plumping effect.
 LIP GLOSSES are designed to give
the lips a glossy luster and sometimes,
subtle color. They usually have a lower
viscosity than traditional lipsticks and
are more transparent.
 Lip glosses consist of a higher ratio of
oil sand lower ratio of waxes;
therefore, they apply smoothly, have a
greater shine, but do not wear as long
as a lipstick does.
 They can be clear or translucent or
exhibit various shades of opacity with
various finishes, such as metallic,
glittered, glassy, and frosted.

butters, fats, and oils, similar to
lipsticks; however, the finished for-
mulation is harder and the level of
pigments is slightly lower.

EYELID….
 An eyelid is a thin fold of skin that covers and protects
the human eye.
 The levator palpebrae superioris muscle retracts the eyelid,
exposing the cornea to the outside, giving vision. This can be
either voluntarily or involuntarily.
 The human eyelid features a row of eyelashes along the
eyelid margin, which serve to heighten the protection of the
eye from dust and foreign debris, as well as from
perspiration.
 "Palpebral" (and "blepharal") means relating to the eyelids.
Its key function is to regularly spread the tears and other
secretions on the eye surface to keep it moist, since the
cornea must be continuously moist. They keep the eyes from
drying out when asleep.
 Moreover, the blink reflex protects the eye from foreign
bodies.
INTRODUCTION TO THE EYE MAKEUP

 Eye-shadows for evening wear may also include
glittering metallic particles to produce silver or gold
effect
 For this gold, silver-leaf, bronze powder and aluminum
powder may be used for this purpose.
 Eye shadow may be in liquid paste or in solid form.
 Solid form of eye shadow may be powder compact
type, oil based stick type or pencil type.

Eye linear
 The eye linear should be absolutely non- irritant as
they are applied to the edges of the eyes.
 Liquid eyeliners should dry quickly. slow drying
eyeliners would be unpleasant to the people with
double folded in eyelids as the eyes must be closed
until the eyeliner has dried.
 They are easy to apply.
 The formed film should have flexibility.
 The final eye make up should look attractive.
 They should have as less microbial contamination as
possible.
 Different types of eyeliner are available in the market.
These may be either in solid form or in liquid form.

and applied to the eyebrows and under the eyelids.
 Mascara is a black pigmented preparation for applying
to eyelashes or eyebrows. It darkens the eyelashes and
gives an illusion of their greater density and length.
 Mascara should have the following properties :
1. It should be easy to apply and should be capable of
even application
2. It should not cause smudging.
3. It should be non toxic and non irritant
Formulation of Mascara…..
 Liquid mascara : it has been available for long time
but did not become popular till development of special
cylindrical container with small diameter brush
integrated into screw on lid. This dispenser is
convenient to carry in bag.
 Earlier preparation of liquid mascara were prepared
by suspending pigments in a mucilage.
