Description Contents:
• The fieldwork practice shall consist of up to two days of supervised clinical
practice placement per week spread over the two academic semesters.
• The block placement shall consist of a month of uninterrupted supervised clinical
practice placement at an occupational therapy service setting.
Objectives:
At this level, the students will be able to assume the occupational therapy assistant role,
i.e. hands-on-participation under direct supervision.
At the end of the fieldwork module the student will be able to:
• Demonstrate effective observation skills both with clients, carers and the various
treatment situations and participate effectively if asked to do so.
• Observe and participate in administrative functions and operations of the OT
department.
• Establish effective verbal and non-verbal communication, feedback and reporting
skills both with clients, carers, co-workers and fieldwork educators.
• Demonstrate initiative, appropriate judgement and follow through with all expected
duties.
• Demonstrate professional behavior required of an OT including responsibility to
the client, confidentiality and respect.
• Demonstrate self-assessment and self-directed learning
• Demonstrate effective time management skills.
• Demonstrate an ability to establish and maintain an effective and appropriate
relationship with client, carers and the multidisciplinary team.
• Demonstrate the application of safety standards and procedures during practice and
knowledge to deal with unexpected situation.
• Participates in the use of therapeutic activities as appropriate.
• Understands and appreciates the application of the Occupational Therapy process.
