Question 2:
My horror film represents particular social groups, such as adults and mainly
teenagers. The reason for this is because after doing some research on horror
film audiences and fans, statistics show that on average teenagers are the most
populated audience to watch horror films. This is mainly because teenagers have
the most disposable income and they also have the most free time on their
hands, this gives them an excuse to go to the cinema and watch films. However
some adults still tend to watch horror films too, just not as many as teenagers do.
This is why I have mainly aimed my film to a teenage audience. I have done this
by using stereotypical characters and events in my film, such as teenage male
characters and teenage female characters. I have also used a teenage party in the
film because usually where there are teenagers there are parties. The choice of
clothing throughout my film is also stereotypical teenage clothing like the
character ‘Ryan’s’ clothes in the film, they are your typical college student
clothing, which consists of a pair trainers, a pair of jeans, a T-shirt, a shirt and a
backpack. This particular clothing is a representative of what the average
teenager at college would wear on a daily basis. And also the clothes that
‘Sydney’ and ‘Olivia’ wear throughout the film are your casual female clothing
that a girl would usually wear for college each day, which consists of either a
skirt, a T-shirt and a jacket or a pair of jeans, a T-shirt and a jacket. I chose to
represent the teenagers in this way because people like to watch films that are
predictable or that have something that they can relate to, and I figured that if I
dress the teenagers in the film in what teenagers usually wear, then this would
attract more teenagers to watch the film. I have used two female protagonists in
my film, as the female usually dies first in a horror film, however I have
challenged this because I had both of the main female characters killed of at the
start of the film, and one of them usually survives, leading on to the next part of
the film.
