1. IN WHAT WAYS DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT USE,
DEVELOP OR CHALLENGE FORMS AND CONVENTIONS
OF REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS?
2. INSTRUMENTAL SHOTS…
Throughout the duration of my music video I
used shot types similar to that of other music
videos. This is because through observation of
other music videos I was able to see that these
shots were most appealing and fitting for my
genre. I also found that this improved the overall
quality of my transitions as it provided a smooth
change between shots.
This conforms to typical music videos through
both shot type and the acting as it is common
for a music video to have instrumental shots. By
including shots of the guitarist I have lived up to
the expectations of the audience, this is
because shots of the band are expected.
3. STEREOTYPES…
My music video is the story of a girl that is lonely and that finds love/companionship
at the end, this conforms to the typical ‘girl meets boy’ storyline that is found in many
music videos, this includes popular videos such as: Taylor swift - you belong with me
and Katy Perry- last Friday night.
Although I conformed to the storyline of lonely girl meets guy my music video
subverted from the ‘lonely girl look’ as my actress did not wear smart clothing and
glasses. This is because I found that the video would be more relatable to if the main
actor had the look of a normal person, this applies more to modern teenagers which
fits my target audience.
5. HOW I HAVE DEVELOPED, CONFORMED OR CHALLENGED
CONVENTIONS…
Through my use of storyline and props I believe that I have conformed to the
conventions of a typical music video. My storyline follows the ‘lonely girl meets
boy’ storyline commonly found in modern day music videos, in addition it
conforms to the message of the song which is expected from audiences.
I have also conformed to the conventions through my use of setting and props. I
have filmed in a school setting with props such as books and instruments, this is
commonly found within storylines like mine.
However, I believe that I have also challenged the conventions through my use of
costume and dress code, this is because the typical image of a friendless person
is that of a person wearing glasses and dressing smartly. I decided to keep my
actors clothing style average and so I ended up with a normal person that was
friendless. This is more relatable to most people nowadays as not many people
dress in the way that is stereotyped.
