3. Purpose of theVeterinary Pharmacy
Resident
■ To prepare for certification by the Society ofVeterinary Hospital
Pharmacists (SVHP) as a Diplomate of the InternationalCollege
ofVeterinary Pharmacy (DICVP)
■ To build knowledge and skill set in preparing high quality, safe,
effective, and legally acceptable compounded medications for
animal patients
■ To design and implement a clinical research project and present
findings at the annual meeting of the Society ofVeterinary
Hospital Pharmacists (SVHP)

4. A Day in the Life
■ 7:30a: prepare for rounds
■ 8:00a: attend transfer rounds
■ 8:15a: attend house officer rounds
■ 10:00a: conduct any necessary research from
rounds. Respond to any questions clinicians had
for me.
■ 11:00a-2:00p: staff the pharmacy as needed,
work on projects
■ 3:00p: help stock the Omnicell

– Get experience in a veterinary pharmacy setting
– Do a research project
– Join SVHP if you haven’t already ($25.00/year)

– Do a rotation at a veterinary hospital (Purdue, NC State, etc.)

– Make sure there is a veterinary drug handbook in your pharmacy
– Be knowledgeable of other veterinary drug resources
