2. I like these wide performance shots. This band also perform in dark locations and I like this idea;
we have the option to use a barn where we can affect the lighting and develop connotations of
our female star walking through the darkness bringing them light. However, we also want her to
entice them and disrupt them so we could have her moving through from left of frame.
3. Medium close up- the lighting is coming in from behind him which creates a moody effect. He
always looks mysterious in these shots which is part of his star image. I would like to plan in shots
like this and as these music videos have fast cuts on the beat [Goodwin] we can alternate
between these performance shots and our narrative.
4. Extreme close up: the extreme close ups of guitars are really effective and develop the
connotations of this genre. These performance shots really reveal the detail of the instrument and the way his
fingers are moving across the strings. This is something we want to do. It is likely we will use editing to zoom in
closer [Ken Burns] as zoom on the camera is less effective.
5. Close up – drums . It is the beat created by the drum that is effective and works well in music videos. The
drums in songs mainly carry the beat so I think it is important to have this kind of close on the drums to show
the viewer what exactly is creating the sound. Close ups of drums look great because it shows the symbols
being hit and the movement of the drumsticks. Using this will help us to cut on the beat.
6. Close up – The singer. We need these shots as we are trying to create a promotional package. The viewer needs to form
a relationship with the lead singer, he is the main part. We need to think about star image and lip synch when we do
this. The star image is far more natural and stylish than manufactured bands like One Direction. That is not our TA. We
know they have to appeal to our TA but we don’t want to create a star image that looks false. [Dyer]
7. Lower Than Atlantis - On My Mind (Ellie Goulding cover in the Live Lounge) I like the expression on the
drummers face in this shot and would like to do this in our music video. Drummers have a strong image and the
drummer we intend to use [Tom] is good at performance and facial expression.
8. Extreme close up. These shots are really important and I want to ensure that our lead singer is centre framed
and in close. This is a slight low angle making him look more powerful and though I would like to do this I am
not sure if it will work with our narrative. The girl is a very dominant and modern representation. We did this to
appeal to our female TA.
