1. How well did you synergise
and combine the
NARRATIVES,
REPRESENTATIONS, GENRE of
your TRAILER, WEBSITE and
POSTER?
2. For my music video, I looked at existing music videos and tried to pin
down clear influences.
Listener's video for Wooden Heart had a brilliant style, with the slow
motion walking protagonist carrying something somewhere with no
clear direction or purpose in the narrative and the way it reflects the
tone of the music video.
3. The aimlessness of the character in Listener’s
video seemed to parallel with the lyrics to the
song I was using in my music video. I replicated
the slow motion side tracking shot in my own
work, and the convention worked well to create
a sense of cohesion between the song, lyrics,
and video.
4. The sombre/sad tone of the
music video needed to be
replicated in my album cover,
and so I used a model dressed
up as a clown, took them to
Manchester and photographed
them lighting a cigarette
(among other poses with props
that signalled the idea of a
degenerate/someone hard on
their luck, like the protagonist
of my music video). I think this
worked to create a visual that
aligned with my other products,
but was unique in its Rene
Magritte inspired surrealism.
5. I also wanted to include a singer performing
the song, and so I needed to find a music video
that shows the singer performing an acoustic
song with clear emphasis on star and branding.
I found Green Day's Good Riddance (Time of
Your Life) was perfect for this, as the simplicity
of the song is reflected in the simplicity of the
performance, and there's a clear focus on the
singer as a star, as he's the only one in the shot
when he performs. There are also close up
shots of his face, which is something I tried to
replicate in my own work. The star was meant
to look conventional, as represent the average
listener of acoustic music.

6. In my poster, I tried to
use fairly conventional,
sophisticated fonts to
represent the performer
and the gravitas that
surrounds the music and
performance style.
The pictures have a kind
of sombre, understated
sense of style to them.
This was used
intentionally to synergise
the photography with my
other products.
7. GENRE
For the website, I tried to continue my usage of simple,
understated and classic looking fonts as it replicated
the style of the music video. The use of fonts managed
to add a traditional kind of look to everything, while I
used advertisements and html YouTube embedding to make
the website look as modern and up to date as possible.
