3. ‘Lesya Ukrainka Award’ for literary works for
children and youth
It is awarded for works that promote
upbringing of the younger generation
in the spirit of national dignity and the
unity of Ukrainian society.
The award ceremony is held annually on
February 25, the birthday of Lesia Ukrainka
4. There are 4 nominations:
1. Literary works for children and youth.
2. Art design of books for children and youth.
3. Theater performances for children and young people.
4. Cinema productions for children and youth (since 2007).
The award is 10 thousand UAH.

6. The “Great Hedgehog" Award
The "Big Hedgehog" Award is a new prize, which is
especially interesting because it is intended for authors who
write for children.
The prize was founded in 2011. The idea of the prize belongs
to the writer Marianna Kianovska.
The aim of this prize is to get children, parents, librarians and
teachers interested in the best Ukrainian-language books for
children and to promote the popularity of children's reading.
7. The works that are included in the List
of finalists are divided by age categories:
• works for children from 2 to 6 years old;
• works for children from 6 to 9 years old;
• works for children from 9 to 14 years old.
The best one is determined in each age group.
8. Awarding of winners is annually on
June 1.
The amount of the prize is 1 000
Euros, but it is issued in UAH.
Presently, this prize lacks influential
media partners. Therefore few of
parents and children know about it.
9. Also with the "The Great Hedgehog" the
honors of "Small Hedgehog", "Hedgehog for
an interpreter" and "Hedgehog for the artist"
are based.
"Small Hedgehog" - an award for the best
original work of literary (not published
previously), written by a child under the
age of 15.
10. Tetyana Kachak (the lecturer of V. Stefanyk
Precarpathian National University) is a
member of the jury of the “Great Hedgehog"
award.
Marianna Kianovska (writer, translator) is
the director of the Literary award the “Great
Hedgehog".
11. This award was given in 2012 to
Valentin Burdt for "My friend Yurko Tsirkul
and others "
12. The Book of the year of BBC is literary award for
Ukrainian-language literary works.
The award was founded in 2005. It quickly became
one of the most prestigious literary awards in
Ukraine.
Its founder is the British Broadcasting Corporation.

13. Since 2012, the prize is announced in two
categories:
- The Book of the year of BBC
- The Children's Book of the Year of BBC
The winner receives a reward of 1000 pounds.
14. This award was given to writers:

15. The book "Who will make snow" won in this
competition in 2013.
This book is unique. This is a warm tale about the
family of moles and their thirteen children, about
friendship and mutual help, about care and home
comfort, and about who actually makes the snow ...

16. Coronation of the Word award
It is an International literary competition of
novels, plays, screenplays, song's lyric and
works for children. This is a project by
Tatyana and Yuriy Logush.
The contest was founded in 1999.
The "Works for Children" nomination was
founded in 2011.
17. The aim of the competition is to
support the new Ukrainian culture,
search for new names, publish the best
novels, stimulate and support the
modern literary process of cinema and
theater, and to fill the Ukrainian
market with competitive literature, and
to fill cinema and theatre with high-
quality Ukrainian films and plays.
18. Nominees of "Coronation of the Word"
are experienced writers and novices.
Works must be written in Ukrainian.
The author of the best novel gets the
greatest award - 20 000 UAH.
19. This award was given to writers:
- Olena Tereshchenko "Treasure of the
Vikings", 2017
- Svetlana Didukh-Romanenko "The Cat
who loved the oceans", 2017
20. "Ukrainian Book of the Year"
"Ukrainian Book of the Year" is the state annual prize of
the President of Ukraine.
It was founded in 2009.
The winners are awarded in the spring.
The monetary reward is 100 000 UAH for the winner of
each nomination (the prize is divided equally between
the authors and the publishing house).
21. There are 3 nominations:
- for achievements in the field of artistic
literature;
- for the contribution to the development of
Ukrainian studies;
- for promoting in upbringing of the younger
generation.

24. The “Carnegie Medal”
The “Carnegie Medal” is a British literary award that
annually recognises one outstanding new book for children
or young adults.
It was founded in 1936.
This is the oldest and most prestigious award for books for
children in Britain.
The winner receives a gold medal and 500 pounds for
books, which he must transfer to one of the libraries of his
choice.
25. The Medal is named after
the Scottish-born American
philanthropist Andrew
Carnegie (1835–1919),
who founded more than
2800 libraries in the
English-speaking world.

27. The Kate Greenaway Medal
The Kate Greenaway Medal is the British literary award, which annually
awards the best illustration for a children's book.
It was founded in 1955.
This award is associated with The Carnegie Medal.
The winner receives a gold medal and 500 pounds for books, which he
must transfer to one of the libraries of his choice.
Since 2000, there is also a cash prize of 5000 pounds, which was
founded by Colin Mears.
28. The Medal is named
after the English
