to California. It lives near shore and in deep or
coastal waters. It lives down to 3,300 ft, which is all
the way to the twilight zone.

4. A jellyfish eats animals that float in the sea like
zooplankton, fish eggs, larvae, phytoplankton,
copepods, crustaceans, fish, shrimp, crabs, tiny plants
and other animals. Jellyfish digest food quickly. A
jellyfish eats and gets rid of waste from its mouth.

5. A jellyfish stings its prey before eating it. A
jellyfish is clear to hide from enemies.
Jellyfish have a venomous sting that can kill
crabs. They also have poisonous tentacles.
Jellyfish can smell in water. That helps them
because they live in deep water.

6. A jellyfish lives for one year. They have either
male or female sex cells. They lay eggs in the
open water where fertilization takes place.
The fertilized eggs will develop into a larva.
They don’t have live births.
