St. Patrick was born in Wales but captured and taken to Ireland as a slave when he was young. While working as a shepherd in Ireland, he heard God's voice telling him to escape and preach the Gospel to the Irish pagans. He became a priest and used the shamrock to explain the Holy Trinity to the Irish people. St. Patrick spent his life teaching about Christianity in Ireland and died there on March 17th. Today, his feast day on March 17th is celebrated worldwide by Irish communities with parades and parties in his honor.

2. When he
was young • St. Patrick was born in
Wales. A country
beside England, close to
Ireland.
• When he was a young
boy, he was captured
and taken to Ireland
where he was sold as a
slave to a farmer.

3. • Patrick minded sheep on a
hill. He wasn't looked after
very well.. He prayed every
night. Then one night he
heard a voice. It was God.
He was telling him he had
to escape and to tell the
Irish pagans (the people who
didn’t know about God) all
about Jesus. He became a
priest.

Ireland
• He used the shamrock
to explain to the Irish
how to bless themselves
and all about God, his
son Jesus and the spirit
inside of all of them.

have banished all
the wild snakes
from Ireland.

6. • He died on the 17th of
March a long time ago
after spending all his
life teaching about God
and encouraging people
to become priests and
bishops just like him.

• We celebrate St.
Patrick’s day on the 17th
of March. Everywhere
in the world where
there are Irish people
it is a big feast day.
People have parades and
parties and all
remember St. Patrick
and the country from
which they come –
Ireland.
