St. Patrick's Day is celebrated on March 17th to honor St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. According to legend, St. Patrick used the three-leafed shamrock to explain the Christian holy trinity. He is also credited with driving all the snakes out of Ireland. The leprechaun, symbolized by a small old shoemaker with a cocked hat and apron, is associated with St. Patrick's Day celebrations. According to folklore, if you catch a leprechaun you can force him to reveal his hidden pot of gold, but you must keep your eyes on him or he will vanish.
