Research and planning
1.
2. The location I have chosen to film my trailer in is a school which
will be closed for half term. As my friends dad works there we will
be able to access the school and the areas we need. The
school will be empty because its half term which will be good
for isolating the characters and creating suspense and it also
means I wont be bothering anyone whilst I am filming. Another
good thing about this location is I will be able to use prop guns
and weapons as its a private area and there wont be people
who might take the wrong impression. The school also has large
outside areas which I can use for some of the more action
based shots and inside areas which I will be able to use for the
police office and interrogation room. I'm going to film from
about 16.00 so that the lighting is lower which is essential for
thriller films, as low key lighting helps build up tension. Some shots
I want to film just before it gets dark to further show tension and
suspense as it will make things harder to see. There are a few
other locations I will use, like my house which is going to be a
crime scene for the start of the trailer and also my car which will
be used for some exposition around the start of the trailer.
3. The first character, is going to be the main
protagonist of the trailer. He conforms to the hero
stereotype as he is a white, heterosexual male
character who will be physically capable. He will be
one of the detectives on this case who wants to stop
the killer as its his job, which he takes very seriously. He
will have had a hard time working to become a
detective, including a difficult time in homicide. His
intentions will be good and this will come across in his
dialogue in the trailer. This is why for mise-en-scene he
is going to have a grey suit with a white shirt and
black tie. This will make him look respectable and like
a proper detective which will be good for the
narrative.
4. The second character is also white, heterosexual
male character and a detective. However he is
going to be an antihero and only trying to catch the
killer to get revenge for something that has
happened. He is a talented detective, being one of
the youngest people to earn this job, but he also has
a history of brash decisions and violence, even if it is
towards criminals. His motives, actions and dialogue in
trailer will be much more sinister but he is still a
protagonist because he is trying to stop the
antagonist. For mise-en-scene he is going to have a
black suit with a white shirt and black tie so he also
looks respectable and like a member of the police.
However the suit will be black as the connotations of
black are darker and this will contrast the grey on the
other characters suit, showing that he is not as
heroic.
5. The third character is going
to be a victim of the killer
who has managed to
survive. Not much of him is
known as he wont reveal
anything about himself. All
they know is what he looks
like and that the killer
decided to let him live. For
mise-en-scene he will be
casually dressed. However
his t-shirt is going to be
covered in blood to show he
has been at the mercy of
the killer.
6. I will use a few props in my trailer
to either danger or help guide
the narrative. One prop I want
to use is some toy guns. Guns
will show danger and, whilst
there wont be any shooting in
the trailer, this will create tension
and suspense as the viewer
knows there is danger. Another
prop will be fake blood as I will
need this to use on the t-shirt of
the victim. A final prop will be a
knife and hammer which will
also be covered in fake blood.
This will only appear in the
montage of shots near the end
of my trailer.
