Carrie's Tragic Transformation from Bullied Teen to Sadistic Killer
1. Just by looking at
Carrie you can see that
she does not fit the
normal profile of a
sadistic evil killer.
Although she is wide
eyed and blood is
coming out of one of
her eyes.
After some research into the
plot of the film I found out
that Carrie’s mother is
deeply religious and that
Carrie was bullied at school
and these two important
factors of her life led to
become a sadistic child
killer.
The best horror films give
there killers back stories
and this is what they
have done and this used
so that in there own
minds the killers can
justify there killings.
By analyzing the font I can
make the assumption that she
kills her victims with a lot of
blood and gore I know this
because there is blood
splattered on the title of the
film.
The film poster does not
provide any information about
institutions which produced the
film
The strapline suggests that Carrie was scared as a
child and also the second line could suggest that
her incident in the changing room caused her to be
the way she is. The strapline is also a comment on
over protective catholic parents.
Apart from her face and hair the
poster is completely black and
this gives her an angelic and
innocent look.
The crack going through her
face could be used to show
both sides to her personality.
The child side and the mentally
scarred child side.
The characters young
pretty face could be used
to hide her mental scars
left by bullies at school
and her mother.
When watching horror
films we are left wondering
why she is the way she is
because she seems rather
normal looking for a
sadistic teenage killer.
2. This scream poster is very basic
and simple. This is probably
because it is the fourth film in
the series. They are all very
similar films so they do not need
to over do it
Black is the colour which usually signals
death and horror this contrasts with the
mask which is white.
I can infer that this
particular killer uses a
knife to kill his victims
because of the knife
coming out of the mask
This is the first scream
film of the decade I know
this because the
strapline reads “new
decade. New Rules.” I
think what they are
trying to say with this
strapline is that this film
will be quite different to
the other three and is a
clear ploy to bring
people to the cinema.
They have chosen to include a 4
instead of an a because it is the
fourth film in the series and it is
similar to the letter a.
The colour of the
Typography is very
similar and all text
is red white or
black. This is a very
consistent and
simple colour
scheme which is
used not to
confuse the person
looking at the
poster because a
variety of colours
would confuse the
reader as they
wouldn’t know
where to look.
Similar to the other film poster I
analysed this one has just the one
image of the protagonist killer who
takes up the majority of the poster.
This is because they are the focus of
the film and the character audiences
most want to see.
3. Similarities and differences between
film killers
• The protagonist from Carrie does not look like your
typical killer mainly because she is female and a young
women. The backstory for her is also rather unique as
most killers in films do not get bullied at school and
then take revenge. Not to mention her extremely over
the top Catholic mother. Just by looking at her you
would not expect her to be the killer and maybe this is
what made the film good because it has unique
elements in it and is surprising for the viewer. But the
killer from Scream 4 is a stereotypical killer as he
wears a mask and uses a knife to kill his victims.
