Task 1
1. In what ways does your media product use, challenge or develop forms and conventions of real
media products?
In this screen shot from our film you can see our main character, an assasin, crossing out his last
target which he killed this follows the standard thriller narative of a murder or killing. As you can see
we are not challenging this convention and we are simply following it as many other thrillers of this
genre do.
This is a picture of barrack Obama which features in a clip of our film, this is the main characters
next target, we could say that his is his protagonist, again this is following a convention of thrillers as
this target will then turn out to be his “Achilles heel” or downfall to him in the film.
2. This clip shows the very start of our film, you could say this doesn’t quite follow the conventions of
thrillers as it is set in a very normal location on a street in Cambridge about to enter the assassin’s
house. This you could say challenges the convention as it is set in an ordinary, reasonably nice
location. Whereas assassins and killers are usually seen in very luxurious locations or very gritty
urban ones, this is neither.
This clip shows the envelope in which the assassin’s next target is given, this follows the convention
of an enigma in thrillers as it makes you ask questions as to what it is in the envelope, what the logo
on the front of the letter means and who it is from. Again this follows a common convention of
enigmas in thrillers.
3. This follow a thriller convention of themes of seeing and reflection, nearly always found in thrillers
especially with the main character looking at themselves in the mirror then washing their face. This
makes you think that they are almost wondering what they are doing there and what’s going on with
their lives.
This gives you an idea again of our thriller and how it is following conventions, which mainly did in
our thriller. The lighting used as with many thrillers is quite dark which gives of a moody almost
hostile looking environment in which the film is set.
