Question 2
1. Question 2: How does your media product represent particular
social groups?
My music magazine genre is pop music it is represented by quite a young target
audience who are mainly female and between the ages of 10-16.Through the usage of
an attractive 18 year old male as the cover star of my magazine, I was able to
represent and appeal to my target audience who are young girls who fantasise over
attractive 18 year old males. Because of my cover star young girls are more likely to
purchase my magazine as they see something that they dream of having. The way my
artist is dressed also appeals to my target audience as he is dressed in a vest top which
shows of his body and a snapback. This is what attracts the target audience because
he stands out to them. It is also fashionable and what most male artists wear. I also
think that the usage of bright colours played a key part in attracting the young target
audience who are mainly females. I have used a bright blue and yellow because I felt
they were appropriate colours to use in order to make the magazine stand out and
catch the audience’s eye. I thought that the colours I used was good colours because
they are bright and makes the page stand out even more which is a key part in my
magazine.
2. For the journalism part of my magazine I have used basic simple language which
will be easier for my young target audience to understand and therefore will
appeal to them. I did not want to use informal language because I did not want to
conform to the stereotype that teenagers and young children use informal
language and understand it better. I wanted to display this by using formal but
simple language in my magazine to represent that my target audience have a good
intellectual understanding.
In both my front cover and contents pages I have mentioned the names of popular
mainstream artists who appeal to my young target audience such as Justin Bieber,
Cher Lloyd, JLS and One Direction.
