Project proposal title and date:
Living in a country of conflict 20th May 2022
Main area of activity:
I will be working in video, specifically documentary
Rationale:
I have developed my interviewing skills through my factual project, I will use this
skill for my interviews that I will be doing for the documentary.
I have a strong interest in peoples real life stories and experiences especially in
countries where there is much more instability than in the UK. I chose the medium
of video because I wanted to audience to hear the stories in the persons own
words and voice. I think this can be quite powerful.
Through my past projects I have worked on my video editing and audio recording
skills and hope to develop them more during this project. One of my strengths in
creating interview questions and opening an avenue for further conversation. I can
use this skill to link my interviewees answers and provide the listener with a
clearer picture of what was going on at the time in the country that they were
working/living in.
Project Concept:
The concept for my project is a 2-part documentary about what it is like to live and
work in a country of conflict. For one contributor I will focus on the civilian aspect
where they chose to live and work with their family, and for the other I will
concentrate on a military assignment where they were sent to perform a job in a
country of conflict. I will be meeting my interviewees in person filming and
recording them with their permission. In-between the conversations I will be
inserting their own photos. This will make the interview more interesting for the
viewer and give them a look at what the interviewees life was like in the country
they are speaking about.
The contributors for the interview are friends that were willing to talk to me about
their experiences.
For research I will need to look at other documentaries about wars over the past
and photos taken by photojournalists. My research is going to look at Chris
Hondros, Tim Hetherington, Jehane Noujaim, and others who have documented
the life of civilians and soldiers in war zones. I will also view a number of

documentaries to review interview style and questions and the environment to get
a better understanding of different styles.
This project is aimed at people of all ages who like factual conversations. It might
interest those with a historical and military background or interest in historical and
military events and the life style of those living in countries where the culture is
very different to ours.
How will the project be evaluated and reviewed:
I will evaluate the work by having a production diary which will be evaluated as the
project goes on. The final evaluation will include feedback from my peers and
verbally from my contributors.
