OVERVIEW
Propulsion of commercial vessels using solar energy based on
Li-ion battery storage is limited to port stay use due to higher
per kwhr cost and high power demand. Authors are
proposing an alternative way of using hydrogen fuel
generated by electrolysis of sea water powered from solar PV
technology. Solar powered boat MS-Turanor design is taken
for comparison purpose. Hydrogen can be freely generated &
stored easily in compressed form in bigger tanks enough for a
week long main propulsion of cargo ships. Cost per ton per
mile is lesser than Li-ion use.
