3. INTRODUCTION
VANET “Vehicular Ad Hoc Network ” is an application of MANET & Self -
configuring network of vehicle.
Nodes are connected by wireless links
Vehicles are free to move in all directions “360 - degree ”
Communicaitons require above standard wireless to handle the fast dynamic
network changes to provide real time results with high accuracy such as
IEE802.11P
Every node sends , receives and retransmits data that includes speed , location
and direction
4. What is VANET ?
Vehicles transformed into “computers on the wheels ” or “ Networks on the
Wheel”
Vehicular Communication System (VCS) :- Two main types of communications
Vehicle to Vehicle (V2V) Communication
Vehicle to Infrastructure (V2I) Communication
Adavantages and Usage of VCS :-
Information Sharing
Co-operative Driving
Other value added services like Navigation , Internet access etc.
Ad - HOC means to a system of network elements that combine to form a
network requiring little or no planning
5. Components of VANET
• Vehicles
• Electronic and hardware components like sensors and actuators also software
components like operating systems , diagnostic software , peripheral drivers
and so on .
• Intelligent Actuators are five separate main units of the vehicle
( Engine , Transmission , Suspension , Brake system and steering system)
• Integrated Vehicle Control which has an infulence on the movement of the
whole vehicle
• Sensor devices
( Radar , Video Camera and Lidar “ static laser scanner in 1 direction ”)
• Road Side Unites.
• Control of vehicle Groups and Fleets
6. INTELLIGENT TRANSPORATION SYSTEM
It allows safe and free flow traffic .
It uses GPS and DGPS equppied devices
It uses various technology like : -
1. Wire less communication
2. Computations technologies
3. Floating car data /floating cellular data
4. Sensing tecnologies
5. Inductive Loop detection
6. Video vehicle detection
7. Bluetooth Detection
10. • Communication between vehicles in ad hoe mode
A vehicle can receive , transmit or exchange valuable traffic information such as traffic
condition and road accidents with other vehicles.
11. • Broadcast between the network infrastructure and vehicles.
• Exchange of useful information about road conditions and safety measures to be taken into
account
• A vehicle establishes a connection with the RSU to connect and communicate with external
network such as the Internet.
16. VANET Research Challenges
Routing
• Large end to end delays and decreased packet delivery ratio.
Security Frameworks
• Need lightweight scalable authentication frame works.
• Need reliable and secureness
• Need fast and low-cost message exchange facility
17. VANET Applications
Safety - related applicaitons Non - safety related applicaitons
(Comfor - related)
• Assistance Weather Information
- Navigation Instant messaging
- Cooperative collision avoidance Online games
- Lane - Changing Intenet access
• Information Advertisement
- Speed Limit
- Work Zone info
• Warning
- Post - crash
- Obstacle
- Road condition Warnings
18. CONCLUSION
• Conclusion of vehicle to vehicle , vehicle to infrastructure communicaiton
• It improves the safety of the vehicle
• Supports Intelligent Transportation system
