The document summarizes feedback received on a music video and the resulting changes made. Key points of feedback included using both color and black and white filters for dramatic effect; adding breaks to the beat throughout verses after initial breaks were seen as out of place; collecting more footage to better match fast parts of the song; applying black and white instead of inversion to match the color scheme; and filming in a busy location like Oxford Street for shots more relevant to the intended societal and busy tone.
3. There were several mixed responses as to whether the music video should be
in color or not. Some said that black and white would “fit the
singer/songwriter conventions” whereas others said that by implementing
color this would make the music video lose its meaning and effectiveness.
End result:
We decided to use color AND black and white filters evenly so that it adds a
dramatic effect. We also inverted footage as a way of adding another layer.
B&W shots and Color shots were overlaid together as a way of juxtaposing the
colors.
Feedback and changes
5. We had a lot of positive responses when it came to pace. There were a few tips that
were given, which we then corrected.
The audience were very fond of the “breaks on the beat” during the bridge of the
song, but said that it “lacked consistency” as the breaks only took place rather than
throughout the whole verse and therefore looked “out of place”
End result:
We added breaks to the beat throughout the whole verse of the bridge.
One thing that we didn’t have to change was the various shot and angle types as the
audience said the variety was good. We also didn’t have to change the balance of
performance and narrative shots as there was a good balance between the two.
Feedback and changes
6. We lacked in a lot of footage, meaning that shots were unnecessarily
long and the audience therefore pointed out that this out and said that
on the parts of the song where its fast paced, it wasn’t being seen
visually.
End result:
We had to schedule a second day to shoot in order to collect more
footage. We also had to sing the whole song through on camera, so that
it meant that we would be able to go to this footage for any lip-syncing
shots when it came to the time of editing.
Feedback and changes
8. The audience said that they liked the sped up effect so we therefore
kept it.
According to the audience, the “brownish inversion” (invert effect on
original footage) didn’t fit the color scheme
End result:
We applied the black and white effect to the inverted footage giving it a
black and grey color instead, therefor meaning that it fitted in more.
Feedback and changes
10. The main topic of conversation was that the nature shots had no
relevancy to the “societal, busy” tone that we were trying to convey,
therefore meaning that it completely missed the point that we were
trying to get across
End result:
Sabrina did some filming in Oxford Street as it’s a busy location, with
bright lights, a lot of traffic and busy streets making this the ideal place
to film and create the “societal and busy” tone that we were trying to
achieve.
