2. Goodwin's theory
Music Videos demonstrate genre characteristics
Lyrics are represented by visuals.
This can be done by images that either amplify, contradict or illustrate the lyrics.
The atmosphere represent the lyrics so a sad song will show a gloomy and depressing
surrounding or a love song will give of a romantic and warm feeling.
3. How does Goodwin's theory
apply to our video
The original meaning of the song ‘Daddy’ is an obsession with someone or something.
However our interpretation of the song is that Shardonnay (our artist and performer) is hurt
by someone who she dearly loved and she wants to and does get over the pain.
Because of this our video will be illustrative. It will show that she is hurt through the areas
she is and our chorus scene will show her letting go of her past.
The video will not have a clear narrative instead will have a range of shots put together in
different angels and settings
This links to goodwins theory as we are showing how the lyrics of Daddy are sad and deep
so we are having a heavy hearted music video
4. Lil Wayne's ft Bruno Mars song “Mirror on the wall” is a song that has a deep and
meaningful story behind it.
We see this through the colours that are used and the narrative.
The artist acts more than he does sing there is no clear story that matches the song
however the feelings are represented through the art work that he paints and the way he
looks in the mirror.
This matches our video and links to Goodwin's theory that the visuals of a song can be
portrayed through feelings rather than a story.
5. Our video will contain many close ups of The artist this is because we want to promote
shardonnay
By having close ups we are following Goodwin's ideas that to promote a label close ups are
necessary so the audience can recognise the artist
Goodwin talks about how music videos tend to sexualise the female bodies and the
treatment of it
Our video will not do this because our artist is singing a soulful song that is about heart
break. Also shardonnay will be the only performer in the video.
There are lots of close ups of Lil Waynes and Brunos face because Lil waynes image
includes his tattoos and Brunos image include his sun glasses. The close ups will enable
their audience to recognise the label automatically.
6. Carol Vernallis
Vernallis Looks mainly at editing of music videos
She says how music videos have obvious jump cuts to maintain the audiences attention
Special effects, shots being cut and put into different orders and filters are all used to keep
the audience entertained
7. How does vernallis theory apply
to our video
Our video has 4 base tracks which include;
Hampsted Heath
Granary Square
Sahebas bedroom
Plain white background
These base tracks will allow us to cut to different locations for different verses in the song
so the audience wont become bored. The chores will also have the plain white
background dedicated to it. So the audience will know what the main concept of the song
is.
The jump cuts will make it obvious that we are changing from one location to the next
We will also have filters and will be using ‘fade’ transitions to show more obvious editing.
8. The areas that we are using are unique and one particular location that will attract the
British audience is the cable cars as from it you can see the O2 and other land marks in
London that are recognisable and therefore will attract the young audience,
Hampstead heath has a lot of green areas and historical places that have not been
modernised yet. This will appeal to the older audience.
