4. AERODROME
.
According to ICAO, an aerodrome is "a defined area on land or water
intended to be used either wholly or in part for the arrival, departure,
and movement of aircraft."
An aerodrome or airdrome is a location from which aircraft flight operations take place, regardless of
whether they involve air cargo, passengers, or neither, and regardless of whether it is for public or private
use.
Aerodromes include small general aviation airfields, large commercial airports, and military air bases.

AIRPORT:
Airport & Aerodrome
AERODROME:
• Aerodrome is a place where flights take off and land
• Airport is the place where operations relating to flight arrival, departure & services are
carried out.
• Airport is generic word used throughout the world
• Aerodrome is world generally used in UK & common wealth countries
• Aerodrome doesn’t offer facilities to passengers
• Airport offers facilities to passengers including lounge restaurants etc.
7. Airport may imply a certain stature (having satisfied certain certification criteria or
regulatory requirements) that an aerodrome may not have achieved.
This means that all airports are aerodromes, but not all aerodromes are airports.
9. • Civil airport
• Air base
• Airstrip
• Water aerodrome
TYPES OF AERODROME
10. Civil Airport :
A civil airport is an aerodrome certificated for commercial flights.
11. Air Base:
An air base is an aerodrome with significant facilities to support
aircraft and crew. The term is usually reserved for military bases,
but also applies to civil seaplane bases.
12. Airstrip:
An airstrip is a small aerodrome that consists only of a runway with perhaps
fueling equipment
13. Water aerodrome:
A water aerodrome is an area of open water used regularly by
seaplanes or amphibious aircraft for landing and taking off
15. Alternate Aerodrome
According to ICAO, alternate aerodrome means an aerodrome to
which an aircraft may proceed when it becomes impossible or
inadvisable to proceed to or to land at the aerodrome of intended
landing.
Alternate aerodromes may be designated as Take-off , En-route or Destination
alternates
19. Take-OffAlternate
An alternate aerodrome at which an aircraft can land should this become
necessary shortly after take-off and it is not possible to use the aerodrome of
departure.
En-Route Alternate
An aerodrome at which an aircraft would be able to land after experiencing an
abnormal or emergency condition while en route
20. Destination Alternate
An alternate aerodrome to which an aircraft may proceed should it become
impossible or inadvisable to land at the aerodrome of intended landing.
ETOPS En-Route Alternate
A suitable and appropriate alternate aerodrome at which an aeroplane would
be able to land after experiencing an engine shutdown or other abnormal or
emergency condition
