2. settings
• Interior/style: The style would have been a combination of Victorian and
Arab styles.
From the film titanic
3. Titanic's exterior
• Exterior/natural: exterior scenes would have shown lifeboats and ropes
and the ice weather in the north Atlantic.
4. Props: game of thrones
• key props: are props that are essential to the plot and often highlighted
throughout, or example the throne in game of thrones is very iconic to the
series and even appears on the cover of the dvds thumbnails online and in
most trailers.
• incidental: implies the dramatic
significance of a Prop, for example the
heads on a stick In the execution area in which
Ned Stark was executed.
The iconic throne.
The execution area
5. • Motif: a good example of a motif prop would be the symbol of the kings
hand which is a medal in the shape of a hand on a spike. This is a
reoccurring symbol that appears throughout the series and is very
important because whoever is the kings hand has great influence and is
considered a prestigious/powerful position.
The infamous kings
hand pin, which has
been with the likes of
Ned stark, Tyrion
Lanester and Tywin
Lanester.
6. Foreground and background
• Despite it being a series game of thrones is filmed in a very cinematic
fashion and often switches from foreground to background. Foreground
scenes are particularly used in moments of tension, violent or romantic.
This is a screenshot from
the scene in which Tyrion
lanester in a drunken rage
threatens to kill king
Geoffrey during his
marriage to Sansa Stark.
7. Lightings and colors
• Key light: in the 2013 television series peaky blinders has a distinct yellow
tinge in the lighting this is to replicate the smog in the air at the time due
to all the smoke emitting from the factories.
• The fill light in peaky blinders would have had to be soft as most of the light in
the time period was candle light. Whilst obviously the only form of backlight at
the time would have most likely come from a window
• Back light: which is placed behind the
subject to separate them from the
background as done in the
screenshot below.

8. Costume hair and make-up in
sin city 2
• Authentic: a completely authentic part of sin city could be the ”yellow
bustard's” make up obviously unique to sin city. Yellow basted as his name
suggests was not a likable character and his appearance supports this.
• Stylized: in sin city the most distinct costumes would be those of the
notorious hookers of old town whom tended to be a little more
intimidating than sexy.
• Coordinated with setting: the setting of sin city is supposed to resemble a
rough area of north Carolina, but with an obviously severe crime problem.
• Naturalistic:
• Expressionistic:
9. Facial expression and body language
• The facial expressions in a film can be an
essential indication of the mood, for example
when someone changes his facial expression
after directly after talking to someone so that
they don’t but the audience dose see. This
tells the audience the character may not have
been as honest.
10. Positioning and space
• Deep/shallow space: deep space is when
significant objects are placed both near and
far from the camera. Shallow is the opposite..
• Frontally: Is when the camera looks at the face
head on, or a close up.
• Off-screen space: a part of the screen that
diegetic but not visible in the screen.
11. Visual effects
• Miniatures: simuler to com-gen used small
clay miniatures to produce a scene by scene
video.
• Computer gen: can produce obviously
unrealistic images ie. Ice age , Madagascar etc
