2. Historical
• Watched birth of Hollywood documentary
from which we learned of the first pioneers of
the film industry such as D.W Griffith, Charlie
Chaplin and Mary Pickford and the foundation
of the United Artists.
• I put together a leaflet on the birth of
Hollywood and a short silent film in black and
white and shows the technology they would
have dealt with at the time.
3. Cultural
• Investigated ideology culture, and cultural
relevance to a few specific films.
• I chose to do secondary research on the USA
and the history of horror. I highlighted how
the content of the horror film reflect what the
nation was fearing at the time i.e .zombies =
disease/war, Fred Kruger = serial killers/sex
offenders.
4. Remakes
• I researched the details of three remakes
including ‘’Judge Dredd’’, ‘’I am legend’’ and
‘’dawn of the dead’’. All had there pros and cons
for example ‘’I am legend’’ was better known
than the original however ‘’Judge Dredd’’ didn't
even break even at the box office.
• We also looked at back to the future I also put
together a script of a remade back to the future
in a post apocalyptic 2045, and made a
moodboard for the 1980s showing what was on
peoples minds at the time.
5. Findings and conclusion
• I have learned from studying this history of
film and information regarding specific points
particularly in horror. That the west projects
its fears through films as we saw with the
zombie genre which represents fear of disease
and a post apocalyptic fear that society could
break down. In my opinion to conclude I think
that the context of production reflects what is
happening in the society at hand.
