Liverpool.
• This will be the main source of action within the drama
with many of the main scenes being filmed here.
12. Ormskirk
• Health and safety will have to be taken care of with an action scene through these
streets as we will have real stalls that are used and so health and safety
measures need to be taken care of so that members of the public are safe.
13. Ormskirk Action Scene - Route of
Vehicle
• Many different measures will have top be taken into account when considering
real market stalls that will be used. Contingency measures will be taken place to
ensure that any property of the public is either replaced or compensated for if
anything is damaged
14. Ormskirk
• Measures will have to be taken care of with shooting in the train station.
Merseyrail who operate the station will have to be paid a sum of money for their
brand to be showed and this will all have to be taken of and agreed before filming
16. Bowness-on-Windermere
• A town in South Lakeland, Cumbria, England.
• The town offers stunning views across lake Windermere and
the surrounding mountains.
• Makes it the ideal location to film some of the more cinematic
and wide shots that really gives the drama some depth and
allows for the drama to show of the natural beauty of Cumbria.
• There is a dramatic contrast between both areas as one is
located in the Lancashire and the other is surrounded by
mountains.
23. Budget
• Transport and location shots will be high for the series
since filming will be taking place in two entirely different
towns across the country.
• Also many parts of the town including some roads will
have to be closed whilst filming occurs due to the nature
of the filming that is taking place here.
24. Budget
• It will cost £10,000 per episode for the custom costumes
to be created and produced this adds up to £60,000 for
the entire series.
• Props and equipment will be given £100,000 per episode
and £600,000 per series this will cover everything from
market stalls to logo cover ups and desk clutter with
realistic objects.
26. Sources Of Finance
• Most of the finance will come from a production grant that
will be a sum of money paid which will be used for the
production of the show.
• Loans will need to be obtained before the filming
commences as the money is needed at the start so that
there is enough to finish it.
• The production cannot run out of funding part way through
the project.
• Bank Loans will be necessary to the existence of the
drama.
28. Target Audience
• The detective drama will target more mature audiences from
around 20 to 40 years old as a lot of the scenes in the show will
require a knowledge to understand the concept.
• Research shows that the more professional spectrum of people
should be targeted as they will have a better understanding of
some of the issues and content within the show
• The show will stay gender neutral throughout as many of the
lead characters are of mixed genders and there is no specific
target towards a gender.
30. Sample SriptIn the Shadows, Script
FADE IN:
INT. Quiet, Dark room
Room is silent and the only light is form a small light that is
illuminating the table, the area around is completely pitch black
There is a small table in the centre of the scene with DI Bennett,
DI Whelburn and Vicky sitting round it.
DI WHELBURN
‘This is a very serious matter Vicky; we are investigating a murder
here some cooperation wouldn’t go a miss’
(Vicky looks blankly at Whelburn)
DI WHELBURN
‘Well then, refer to reference 5a in your documents. It shows the
Analysis from the murder weapon that clearly shows your finger
prints all over the weapon, would you like to explain this…’
VICKY

(DI Whelburn begins to raise his voice and becomes more and more
agitated)
DI WHELBURN

best out of it for you… So now you are saying that this is your
firearms but it was stolen from you to commit the murder… but how?’
(Vicky raises her voice and starts to get angry)
31. • This section of the script explains the location that the
scene is going to take place in.
• It explains that the room will be quiet and dark to help
create atmosphere between characters as it is an
interrogation scene
• It also explains what props are going to be needed and in
what position they are going to be needed in
33. Costumes
• As the detectives are part of a special
operations unit within the main police
force the DI’s and DS’s are plain

• A lot of the budget will be spent on
making the costumes look
completely accurate and realistic
• We have contracted a specific
costume designer to make and
produce the uniforms
• The production team will work very
closely with the real police force to
ensure that the costumes stay as
accurate as possible

easy to read

eyes of the viewers onto the main title.
39. Soundtrack
• Soundtrack will be composed and conducted by Vasily

atmospheres when needed appropriately.

42. Contingency
• Plans need to be taken into account if an actor is ill or
sick then we will be able to film other parts of the show
that do not include said actor.
• If the weather is not permitting filming for that day then
we can adopt the same strategy for this too.
• If one of the shops doesn’t permit or doesn’t allow for us
to use the logo then we will have to blur out or reshoot
the scene to allow for the logo to be covered up
43. Filming
• Filming starts on the 5th June 2017 and finishes on the
15th July 2017.
• This is filming for season one only as seasons are written
one after another.
• Will take place in two locations as previously mentioned:
Bowness-on-Windermere and Ormskirk.
• Rehearsals for the day usually begin at 10am and filming
commences at 11am with it finishing usually around 6pm.
• Only certain crew members are needed throughout the
day.
44. Release Date
• The drama will be aired before the 2019 BAFTA awards in
February
• Will be aired on a Sunday evening from 9pm till 10pm
• Official release date is Sunday the 8th April 2018 on BBC
one as the cut-off date for TV shows eligible for the 2019
BAFTAs is 14th may 2018
46. Editing
• Editing will be done on professional movie editing
software such as Song Vegas Pro.
• The after effects and SFX will be worked on for a few
months after filming has taken place although there isn’t a
lot of SFX within the show
• Professional editors will be contracted to make the most
professional and complete looking TV drama.
47. Advertising
Advertisement ideas:
• Posters
• Radio Adverts
• TV Adverts
• Billboards
Posters and Billboards are aimed to catch the attention of
the passer-by and they will include a big title so that it can
be glanced at but still remembered.
TV adverts will be expensive but are a great way to
advertise as they will be shown to the mass audiences and
a lot of different people will see and take note of.
51. Social Media
• Social media in the modern age is a massive part of the world.
• The cast and actors all have social media accounts and this
can lead to a positive or negative impact on the show Social
media can have a big impact on the show giving it a positive or
negative view overnight. Therefore a lot of positive promotion
and advertising will be dine with the actors and on social media
• The tv show will also have its own social media accounts to
help promote the show and regular exclusive footage and
behind the scenes clips will be uploaded to help get people
“hyped” for the release of the show
• The show will use both Facebook and Instagram to promote
the film with Instagram being the main account for photos and
posters and Facebook being the main account for posts,
trailers and exclusive content
53. Copyright Law
• Most valuable asset to the drama.
• Will protect all the dramas material such as videos, sound
recordings, music and writing.
• Have to make sure that no copyright laws are breached
when in production or on post production.
• Could carry a court order and heavy fine if laws are
broken and could even lead to the cease of existence.
54. Defamation
• Have to make sure that the TV show is ethical and
religiously correct.
• Has to remain clean throughout with no content that could
be seen as controversial or disrespectful towards an
individual or religion.
• Can be treated as a crime and can see a court order filed
against the production company.
57. Feedback
1. I always need to keep checking my slides to make sure that all information and spelling or grammar is all correct
before the final product
2. Make sure that I use correct terminology such as the USP for each of the characters
3. I need to make sure that all characters are explained and their USP is also explained too
4. Need to make sure contingency plans for Ormskirk Market are correct and that we have the rights to film in the
area during the time
5. Need to research the market beforehand and make sure that all health and safety measures are taken care of
with extras and members of the public. Research needs to be carried out to replace the signs on each of the
shops within the filming locations as this could cost a lot of money and could delay the filming somewhat
6. During peak time in Bowness, many tourists are around and so many shops and tourist areas may want to
feature in the filming to help with their product placement as it could attract more tourists to the area
7. More research is needed into the Sources of Finance as the show will need extra funding from the councils and
the tourist board of the area that can provide funding for shows and projects. This is once again to do with
product placement as it can bring tourism to an area if people watch the show
8. Set designs need to be more specific right down to explaining the type of clutter on the sets and what it all
contains, this could then affect the costs as different props cost different amounts
9. Very please with the selection of music choice and research needs to be conducted into how popular
soundtracks for shows are and whether it would be beneficial to release an album afterwards
10. Pleased with the research to the cut-off date of the BAFTA awards and need to be specific in which categories
the show will be entered for and what it has the best chance of winning
11. Advertising would have been clearer with a timetable about when advertising and releases of posters and trailers
should take place to ensure the best possible method of advertising
12. Discussed possible other designs for one of the main poster in which Sarah Lancashire could have her face
blacked out to distinguish a silhouette. We could also change it so that her whole body or the background is
blacked out to really help her stand out on the background and make people wonder who she is and why she is
in the poster and what her role is in the show. Adverts on the side of the buses could also be placed on bus
stops in poster styles also so that people can have a longer look creating more confusion and questioning
13. Copyright law and Defamation was covered well and a good understanding was shown towards both subjects
and the necessary precautions to avoid them
