In order to see the effectiveness of a curriculum, it
is important to evaluate its strength and weakness.
Curriculum is evaluated from various aspects like:
 Assessment of students to see as to what extent
the objectives of the curriculum has been
achieved.
 What happens in the classroom during circular
transaction.
 Evaluation of curricular materials.
 Curriculum evaluation determines the worth or
values of curriculum I,ie, whether the
curriculum is fulfilling its purpose for which it
was formulated.
It refers to the full range of information
gathered in the school district or states
to evaluate 9make judgement
about)student learning and program
effectiveness in the content area.
Curriculum evaluation refers to an ongoing
process of
collecting,analyzing,synthesizing,and
interpreting information to aid in
understanding what students know and can
do.
Curriculum evaluation as “the formal
determination of the quality, effectiveness, or
value of a programme, product, project, process,
objective or curriculum
WORTHEN AND SANDERS(1987)
Curriculum evaluation as “a process or
cluster of processes that people perform in
order to gather data that will enable them to
decide whether to accept,change,or
eliminate something-the curriculum in
general or an educational textbook in
particular
ORNSTEIN AND HUNKINS(1998)
Formative Evaluation
It aims to improve the
existing programme
based on the feedback
Formative evaluation is
used to improve the
curriculum while it is
prepared and
developed
Carried out the end of
an educational
programme
Based on evidence
about “Summed
"effects of various
components or units in
curriculum
Should not be
considered as an one
time affair since it is to
be done at the end
Can be planned at
certain
Summative Evaluation
Teacher can evaluate students skill by asking them to create
 Presentation
 Products
 Session plans,charts
 Teaching and Learning aids or models
Evaluation process is based on two following parameters
 Gained knowledge
 Skill possess during teaching learning process
Rubrics is a scoring guide used to
evaluate the quality of student’s work
A rubric defines in writing what is
expected of the student to get a
particular grade
Students product is assessed by applying same
criteria and so that objectivity should be brought
into assessing products evaluation rubrics can be
used.

The scale or rating scale provides a set of values for rating the quality of
performance for each criterion,
