THE PROCESS FOR BUSINESS DNA MANAGEMENT – “Team: Map. Prototype. Measure. Learn.”

Business DNA Management is a synthesis of ideas for solving 'tame and wicked problems' in
business as well as society. At the core of Business DNA Management is Horst Rittel's
framework for solving "wicked problems" and Edwards Deming's "Plan.Do. Check. Act. (PDCA)"
cycle for continuous improvement.

The process of Business DNA Management can be summarized as "Team: Map. Prototype.
Measure. Learn. (Team: MPML)." The process also incorporates ideas from Eric Ries's Lean
Startup process of "Build. Measure. Learn."


Here's the Process for Business DNA Management -


0. TEAM: Form a diversified team of stakeholders. Establish goals and objectives of the Business

  DNA Project.


1. MAP: Map the current/future story of the system. If necessary, zoom out of or in parts of the

  story on the Business DNA Map.



2. PROTOTYPE: Prototype or build models of the current/future story in order to test

  hypotheses and assumptions of story.


3. MEASURE: Measure/Test/Calibrate the performance as well as 'fitness' of the current/future

  story.


4. LEARN: Learn and gain insights especially from differences between hypothesized and actual

  performance of elements in stories.



Repeat the cycle of "Map. Prototype. Measure. Learn" while using an explicit 'stopping rule.'

  • 1. THE PROCESS FOR BUSINESS DNA MANAGEMENT – “Team: Map. Prototype. Measure. Learn.” By Dr. Rod King (rodkuhnking@sbclgobal.net) The process that accompanies the Business DNA Map is "Business DNA Management"; see http://www.slideshare.net/RodKing/thinking-different-a-business-dna-map-for-bmg-book-project Business DNA Management is a synthesis of ideas for solving 'tame and wicked problems' in business as well as society. At the core of Business DNA Management is Horst Rittel's framework for solving "wicked problems" and Edwards Deming's "Plan.Do. Check. Act. (PDCA)" cycle for continuous improvement. The process of Business DNA Management can be summarized as "Team: Map. Prototype. Measure. Learn. (Team: MPML)." The process also incorporates ideas from Eric Ries's Lean Startup process of "Build. Measure. Learn." Here's the Process for Business DNA Management - 0. TEAM: Form a diversified team of stakeholders. Establish goals and objectives of the Business DNA Project. 1. MAP: Map the current/future story of the system. If necessary, zoom out of or in parts of the story on the Business DNA Map. 2. PROTOTYPE: Prototype or build models of the current/future story in order to test hypotheses and assumptions of story. 3. MEASURE: Measure/Test/Calibrate the performance as well as 'fitness' of the current/future story. 4. LEARN: Learn and gain insights especially from differences between hypothesized and actual performance of elements in stories. Repeat the cycle of "Map. Prototype. Measure. Learn" while using an explicit 'stopping rule.'
